[a small canon update]
Remind me never to travel on airplanes. Much too complicated.

Let's see... how do these boasts tend to go?

In the name of... well, name of what? Myself, I'd think. But some sort of principle, that's what goes here, yes? Justice, honor, love, truth, that sort of thing? And then some sort of reference to the theme of your powers, I'd think. Something like... the thunderbolt of honor strikes through the heart of the storm...

Oh, this isn't working very well, is it? Let's try something else...

Hello. I'm the Doctor. How can I help?

35; not now, five; not ever, five; go away, feels
Whoever's pulling this better stop right now.

[Kefka looks like shit. No amount of red make up can hide how baggy his eyes have gotten or how hollow his cheeks have gotten.]

I don't have time for these shenanigans. Get over here so I can put you to sleep and I can get back to things more important than wallowing in your pity!

Hello, everyone. I know you're all rather busy with your newfound powers, but if I could have your attention for a moment?

As you probably noticed, there was some worldly overlapping a few days ago. I think the bulk of it's been sorted out, but I'd just like to double check, as it were.

Chime in if anything's out of place, or if you're not where you ought to be, if you please.

I don't suppose anyone here knows how I can get ahold of myself?

I think I've missed quite a lot. How have you been lately, community?

[Static] --What are you doing here?

I’m sorry, I know you said not to, but it’s very important!

What is?

Well, I was in the TARDIS, and [static] huge rush of spiritual power. It spoke as well, and I thought you might need to know in case you ran into it...

Spoke? What did it say? Never mind, it’s not [static] I can’t exactly send you back by yourself, now can I?

I guess not... I *am* sorry. It’s just that - well, it was asking for help, Doctor!

That changes things a bit. [Pacing.] Alright, but you have to stay with me, is that clear? Don’t go wandering off or anything, Pearl, really, I do mean it.

I know. I will, I promise.

I get that a lot, you know. Well, no time like [static] --going, shall we?

[ Hey look everyone, it's Pearl! ... and she's not in Kurain village! She is, in fact, in a white room with a large round console in the middle of it, that may look suspiciously like a retro version of the TARDIS anyone who knows the Tenth Doctor may be familiar with. Pearl's dragged a chair into the console room and is sat in front of what must be a screen, looking bored but content. ]

Hi everyone! I caught a ride home from that odd party the other day with the Doctor, but instead of taking us straight back to my world the TARDIS brought us to this strange planet for some reason. We're not really sure why... I guess the co-ordinates must have been slightly wrong or something. Anyway, the Doctor went out to investigate just in case it was important, but he said I should stay here. [ The smallest of refined sighs. She looks a little bit put out about that. ]

I guess I can understand that it might be dangerous, but he's been gone for ages! I had a little look around the TARDIS, but it's so big in here I was scared I'd get lost if I went too far. But I don't know how much longer he'll be gone, so--

[ -- and then Pearl gasps as the lights suddenly flicker for a second or two and a very eerie collection of voices says: We require your assistance.

Then it's gone. But Pearl looks shocked and a little pensive. ] Oh my gosh... but that was...

Um, community? Is it okay to disobey someone to warn them about something, even if you've been told to stay put?

This can't be good.

Well, this is different. Hardly what you'd expect to find when hacking into – well. No need to be specific. I doubt it's some sort of failsafe, they're not nearly so creative. A different sort of interference, then, and a rather fascinating one.

I really do need to know how to get out of it, though. The hacking I mentioned, it's really quite important. Life or death, as a matter of fact, and no, that's not at all a hyperbole.

If you need some convincing – ah, here we are.

[sudden video! a dishevelled, rather battered man waves at the screen, backlit by the harsh blaze of sparks, obscured by a haze of drifting smoke]

Hello there! As I said - [a distant, thunderous explosion cuts him off, makes him stumble] - I really do need to get back to what I was doing. [his voice is carefully jovial, but there's a hint of desperation there]

[a soft, rhythmic tapping before he speaks, voice low and thoughtful] Has anyone else here been a conqueror?

It's a harsh word, really, but I've done harsh things. Sometimes, there's no choice, and refusing to accept that is ignorant at best, negligent at worst.

Moving along, have you been successful? What are your methods? Do you consider your endeavours to be for the best, the betterment of your worlds?

[the voice is familiar, but is at once wearier and harder]

"You know I don't like to actually use it – "

[another man speaks, smooth and low]

" – and I did promise, those centuries ago, only to threaten. Yes, I know, Doctor."

[a sigh, the rhythmic footfalls of pacing]

"But we both know it isn't always enough. We need to be careful, of course, too much devastation – "

" – will be rather counterproductive."

[a pause in the pacing, a wry chuckle]

"Why do I bother finishing a thought?"

"Pure habit, my dear Doctor. I'll finish the calculations?"

"Yes...yes, you do that."

[sharper, swifter footsteps; then another sigh, the soft thump of sinking into a seat]

((Once, the Master offered to let the Doctor – his Third self at the time – rule the universe with him. What if he'd accepted?))

This place seems to explode whenever I take a break from it.

I don't suppose anyone's made any progress with our mysterious maladies?
25 August 2009 @ 10:11 pm
[the Doctor appears, features pinched with worry, hair mussed, clothes dishevelled; it's quite a contrast to the stark neatness of the console room]

A good deal of chaos has suddenly erupted in a usually docile marketplace. People have abruptly lost use of senses and limbs, been struck by pain in their stomachs and throats; no one has any idea what's causing it, including me. There's a lot of panic and - [and he suddenly stiffens, and winces, and then he's right back on topic] - paranoia, and it's too much of a madhouse for me to properly examine anyone quite yet.

I've noticed people here suffering from the same symptoms – it might be related. Has anyone discovered anything about them?
14 August 2009 @ 09:02 pm
[a vast expanse of shining sand, rent by gunfire and surges of boiling mud; a figure is dashing through the chaos, dirty and scarred

flashes of a masked man screaming his maddened rage, of a scared child slipping away on cold stone, of corpses littering stone pathways

laying defeated, whispering his apologies to Peri, exhaustion and agony closing his eyes

desperate and defiant as his arms are torn from their sockets; flippant and derisive as he's bound; burning the binds away with a laser he can't see; frantically steering a crashing ship

an explosion rocks him to his feet, and he's running again; his own voice echoes

"we're innocent, we've had no trial, we've had no opportunity to defend ourselves, in short this is a mockery of justice" (low and quiet and strong)

"we can go on nature walks, have picnics and jolly evenings 'round the campfire!" (bitingly sarcastic, cheerfully reckless)

Peri is cradled in his arms now, a vial clasped in his blistered hand

"I'm not working for anyone, I was just passing through and happened to get mixed up in this pathetic little local war" (scornful and frustrated)

"you won't stop me now!" (manically desperate, fiercely determined)

he's at the TARDIS door when the vial slips; he catches it in time to save just enough for one, and after he pushes inside, he presses it to Peri's lips, makes her drink, collapses to the floor

"too late Peri, going soon, time to say goodbye" (gentle and resigned)

the picture fades]

[his voice is soft, mild, and thoughtful]

There are a number of different realities that have access to this community. I've been wondering if a catalogue might be in order - it may well make things simpler to give each one a label, for both travelling and mere conversation.

We'd need to know who comes from where, of course, and how to differentiate between similar realities; a good deal of information would need to be collected.

I think it would be worth the effort, myself.

The worst part about being in a prison cell is the interminable boredom. Fortunately, I managed to smuggle a computer in. They fit right in your pocket this century, and the internet is…well. Vast, to say the very least.

It's been quite a long time since I had a look about, so to speak. Apparently, I waited too long. Odd thing to do, for a Time traveller.

This community is extraordinary, really – a point of connection across universes? Across Time? Very dangerous, of course, but fascinating, and exciting too. Considering the fabric of Time and Space hasn't collapsed, I assume it somehow stabilises itself. Perhaps it's the duck.

Well! That's certainly enough rambling, for the moment. I'm called the Doctor, and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Well, I hope it is, at any rate. I've had quite enough unpleasantness for the day.
