I'm not normally one for asking this community things, but I suppose it can't hurt to try...

Tell me, how do you deal with a stressful situation? Preferably in a manner that does not involve alcohol, as that has already been tried with... not the intended results, to say the least. More importantly, what do you do when a friend is dealing with a stressful situation and won't accept your help? Any sort of advice would be greatly appreciated.

He considers Yuan a close friend, so the thought of losing him is greatly upsetting to him.

Yes, which is why he's so worried. He's ordered the doctors to bring him updates on Yuan's condition every few hours when he can't go to visit for himself.

I don't know what else we can do at this point aside from hope for the best... but if you'd like me to come by and see if I can distract him, I'd be glad to give it a try.
