So, semi-regular update to make sure I don't get accidentally recorded again... That and I'm just really excited.

We won for our first competition! Wanda showed up and I'll spare you a long story there but it's normally hard for me to compete in front of her. This time I got over it, I flew, and we won. Being up there, it's a lot more amazing than I imagined.

So, I want to celebrate. Anybody game? Some drinks, some ribs, or something cool in your world to show me? When things slow down, I want to take advantage of actually being able to see a lot more out there.

[Marti gives her address.] I'll meet you out front. And we'll sit way in the back so Wanda doesn't see us.

Okay. [It just takes a little bit for her to track down a worldhop.]

[Marti will be pacing out front, hands in her back pockets. When Kendrix appears, she waves.] Hey.

Hey. Sorry if I'm a mess. [She'd made sure to change out of her uniform, but it was just into a T-shirt and jeans, with her hair not quite in her ponytail all the way.] But it's good to be out of the apartment for a little bit.

We're going for ribs. By the time you're finished, you're supposed to look like a mess. [True fact.]

Things still tense with your friend?

She's pretty stubborn. I'm trying not to make things worse.

Worse? I don't really get why it's tense. It is possible to have more than one friend so what's the problem?

Well, there was an attempted theft last night while the other girl was out. When she came back in, she was limping. It might be a coincidence, but something still doesn't feel right.

Huh. Was the thief hurt in the robbery? [It could easily be a coincidence but it could also be more.]

Shot in the leg with a laser bolt.

Yeah, of course. Have you told anybody? It could be dangerous to talk to her about it yourself but somebody needs to know. This is a serious thing.

I work in the sector where the break-in happened, so I've let everyone know to keep an eye out for her. Security's doubling up there too.

Then you've handled it there so let's have some fun here. We can both probably use it.

What do you do, by the way? For the work.

Research assistant working whatever science jobs they give me. Lately, I've been working on an ancient and valuable book we discovered, and it looks like we're not the only ones who want it.

...That sounds familiar. Is anybody else from your world on the community?

[Asking if she knows Riley probably isn't a good idea since so much stuff about him is secret.]

No, I've made sure. There's a similar world, but definitely not the same, and everyone from that world is from far in my future anyway.

Must be a coincidence, then. It sounds like somebody else I know and really, what's the chance of that happening?

[She shakes her head.] I guess it's pretty good, with a world of weird there.
