(no subject)

I'm back on Gaia. That means that everyone can stop procrastinating on their to-do list and get it done before their deadline. No extensions. No exceptions. Failures to meet my deadlines and/or fall underneath the standards set by the ShinRa Company will result in termination of employment.

Lady, you've been established as being seen as my assistant. I have the plans for the generators, but it looks like I'll have to get Tseng and Elena to do the drop-off and carrier seeing as Rod and Rafe have not checked in. I'll go over the plans with you so that you know in detail what they are trying to accomplish.

Reno, you are to follow up ahead in a military issue helicopter. That means you are not to crash it, is that clear?

The liquor that is bought in the store in Venice tastes like you diluted your booze, and you had a very good bottle of Vodka. I'll be coming by myself to pick it up. I'll pay the losses that you gained when you came to see me.

If I could have a word? It's regarding research on various legal systems and you seem to be, in same odd shape and form, lawyers.

Welcome back to Gaia, sir! And not everyone was procrastinating, you know.

Were Rafe and Rod meant to be checking in, then? No worries, we can do it instead.

Well I wasn't!

Oh. If they wanted to join, why haven't they shown up or anything?

Are you mistaking me with Reno or something?!

[Locked]

Ah, guess that explains it...

...In some odd shape and form, I suppose I am.

What is it?

An odd coincidence. I just recently returned from a research-oriented sabbatical in which my efforts were focused on various European legal systems.

You don't need an appointment to come by, you know. 7th Heaven is a public bar.

I can't check this whole pile of paperwork by the deadline!

That's not really my thing.

TRILLIAN SAYS I'M CONNECTED WHEN I'M ACTUALLY NOT LOL

Like you'd let me get out of this. Fine, I'll do what I can, but don't throw a fit if I sleep in tomorrow.

You flatter yourself. My return to Europe had already been planned for some time, since circumstances necessitated a premature return to the States after my prior business trip. As for my work there, I'd hardly call the pursuit of a greater understanding of justice 'frivolous.'

...Unless you refer to other activities? Or perhaps not, as you yourself are a proponent of the benefits of a bit of 'stress relief' when one is working so diligently.

The European and American judicial systems are vast. It would be quite impossible to pare the information down to a 'brief' overview, and a summary that maintained the integrity of the source material would take up much of my extremely valuable time. What incentive would I have to give you the information you need?

Er, that's... sort of a loaded question, but to put it simply: when someone is arrested on criminal charges, they're brought before a judge. A defense attorney, like myself (either assigned or chosen by the defendant), argues in favor of the defendant while a prosecutor, like Edgeworth, is assigned to provide an argument for conviction. Ideally, the defense and prosecution should work towards finding the truth, but, well... it doesn't always work that way.

In the end, the judge decides his verdict based on the strongest argument. It's by no means a perfect system, but from what I understand, systems of justice anywhere rarely are.

...Is that what you were looking for?

Man, you and her Iron Mugliness Konishi would either get along perfectly or kill each other.
