I'd like to ask for some advice, if I may. When viruses come around such as the last one that have obvious effects, how do you go about explaining them to those around you? Surely it must become a problem after a while, for long-term members of this community. I explained away my absence during this virus by citing a sudden family emergency, but I doubt that excuse will work again, especially since due to my father's status any family emergencies would tend to be public affairs.

I haven't been affected by any viruses quite like that before, but I've been absent a few times. I've just been telling people I was sick and stayed at home. There's only one person who could contradict me on that, and he's very good about not questioning things.

That might also be a problem, though. As I live in a dorm, it's not just a matter of people at school-- who would also be suspicious if I suddenly started taking sick days, I've never taken a single one in my life-- it's a matter of keeping it from those I live with, as well.

Why not just tell the truth? Show them this place.

I doubt they would take it well. They have enough to deal with in any case, without adding viruses on top of it all.

I suppose that would be a problem. I live alone except for my butler, so... Actually, I had perfect attendance until now, too, in middle school anyway. But it helped that I had a lot of work to do at the time. I think people assumed my body was weaker than usual because of the stress.

For people who've always done things perfectly, it can be a problem to suddenly have something that interferes with that image, that you don't want others to know about.

Recently something made me think of that virus that happened, and I looked over some notes I took afterward and saw Apathy Syndrome mentioned. I think I have an idea of what it is, but I feel like I should try to get some details.

From what I've discussed with other members of the community, it seems like it's a phenomenon unique to my world. It's unlikely that it would ever be a threat to you. If you're still curious I'll discuss it with you, but I feel I should warn you it's probably not relevant.

It's a difficult road to take, but I'm confident we'll succeed with enough effort and training.

System? No, it's nothing like that. It's not society we're fighting, it's... rather literally an unfortunate aspect of the world we live in at this point.

I'm curious, I suppose. Are the people affected aware of what's going on around them? And if so, will they react? For instance, if you put them at a table with food in front of them, will they eat?

They really do nothing but sit and stare at the walls. Occasionally they'll mumble or shift a little bit, but they have little to no awareness of their surroundings at all.

Aspect? Like a natural disaster? Sorry for the questions, but I'm honestly curious about other lands.

One virus made me miss three days of school. I blamed that on a head cold. The one where I turned into an animal was explained to my mom as an impromptu trip to the beach.

Is there any information on what's going on in their mind? Is it just... nothing, or do they have some kind of mental reality they're seeing?

It's no trouble. As many on this community seem quite used to strange happenings on their own worlds, I have no problem with sharing.

It's unique to my world, from what I've seen. There are these... creatures, I suppose, that emerge during a hidden hour between days. Most people cannot see or sense them during this period, but they can be attacked by them. As you can tell, we can't allow them to roam unchecked.

I'm afraid it would be incredibly suspicious if I started calling into school sick often.

Luckily most of them hit me during summer vacation. Now that school's back in session... I'm hoping beyond all reason I don't get hit.

I wouldn't know. Scanning peoples' minds is outside the realm of my abilities. We do know that it is possible to return them to normal, so I would assume whatever damage is done to their minds isn't permanent.
