006 || [Accidental Video]

[At first, the images that appeared from Faramir’s communicator were disjointed and unclear. A city under the cover of darkness and a group of weary defenders making their way silently towards the bank of a river. Then, suddenly, ferocious creatures – known as orcs in the common speech of Middle-earth – springing from their boats with bloodthirsty cries. The warriors were vastly outnumbered and, though they held out for as long as they could, Faramir eventually had no choice but to urge his surviving men to flee for the safety of Minas Tirith.

They did not ride alone. The next shaky image showed a huge shadow passing over the heads of the desperate survivors. Faramir fell back, sword in hand, to provide a rearguard while his men tried to reach safety. It was difficult to make out what happened next, but the sounds of the battle – the terrifying shriek of the Nazgûl, Faramir shouting at his men to pull back, the scream of the men that are plucked from their horses – were clear enough.

Then, suddenly, a brief image of light in the darkness. A figure in white – the wizard known as Mithrandir by some and Gandalf the White by others – galloped across the plain from the city of Minas Tirth, parting the clouds with his staff and forcing the Nazgûl to flee.

Next, briefly, a snapshot of the city and Faramir urging his horse to Gandalf’s side.
]

Mithrandir! They broke through our defences. They have taken the bridge and the west bank. Battalions of orcs are crossing the river …

[A man standing nearby interjected suddenly, exclaiming that the Lord Denethor had long foreseen the doom that now falls upon Gondor.]

Foreseen and done nothing!

[The speaker was Gandalf himself, but it can be seen the Faramir is no longer looking at his old friend, but at the hobbit – Pippin – that accompanied him.]

Faramir? This is not the first halfling to have crossed your path.

Tell me everything.

[The feed went dark. When it resumed, it was evening once more. Faramir and Gandalf were alone in Faramir’s chambers, discussing the war in serious voices over the remains of a meal. Gandalf had told for him to explain everything and Faramir did as he was asked, describing how he had encountered Frodo and Sam and came within a hair’s breadth of taking the One Ring for himself.]

You did well, Faramir. There are few men with the power to resist the One Ring.

But I did not resist it. Not at first. When I think of what almost came to pass …

But it did not. Your strength is the reason that Frodo is still able to continue his quest.

Frodo is braver than us all.

Your father …

My father knows what I did. He will not forgive me for it. Nor will he forgive you for what you have done.

What I have done? [Gandalf’s eyes twinkled with mirth.]

The beacons burn brightly from Minas Tirith to Edoras, old friend. [Faramir's eyes reflected his smile.] I see your hand in it, even if you did not light the flame yourself.

The people of Gondor must know that they do not stand alone.

I have never thought it. I do not doubt that Rohan will answer.

Oh? [Gandalf is clearly surprised by the level of confidence in Faramir’s voice, regarding him with curiosity in his bright and intelligent eyes.] What is it that you are not telling me, Faramir?

[Faramir paused. How could he tell anyone in his world – even his oldest friend – of the strange community that he alone in Gondor has access to? How could he tell Gandalf of his secret friendship with Éomer and Éowyn of Rohan? Or his feelings for the fearless shield maiden?]

I cannot tell you. [Before Gandalf could speak, he continued in earnest.] Know that I would not keep secrets from you without a good cause. Nor would I keep them if I believed that others would be harmed by my actions.

[There is a pause, during which time the wizard regarded Faramir carefully.]

I know, Faramir. Now … [He rose, taking his staff in hand.] I must speak to the newest servant of the White Tower before he retires for the night. Good night, Faramir.

Good night, Mithrandir.

As long as Éomer and Éowyn are there, I'm sure Rohan will be there to help.

Is there more trouble coming?

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! Please, I should be the one apologizing. I was so rude to everyone, including you. I'm so sorry for everything I said.

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. That's a very good idea.

I'm glad to meet you too, Faramir. My name is Rapunzel.

[identity profile] makewayforroze.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Then help is coming?

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I met them both here at the community.

Though...it seems as though Éomer can't reach the community anymore.

[identity profile] makewayforroze.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great news!

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so. I miss him already.

[identity profile] womanofvalour.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Know that Rohan will stand by Gondor in this war of men, my lord.

[identity profile] makewayforroze.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Having their hopes lifted is as much of a good thing as the backup.

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That's alright. It isn't your fault after all.

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know. Thank you. It's good to be reminded.

[identity profile] womanofvalour.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
But the decision did not come from me. My uncle has set orders for our men to ride, and with us the Lord Aragorn will come also.

[identity profile] womanofvalor.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps I can even show it to you.

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Of course you can!

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I am, too.

You're from a different place in Éomer's world?

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it very far from Rohan?

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-29 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
What is it like?

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-11-30 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
The war has damaged it?

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-12-05 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I'm sure that it will!

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-12-08 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to! I've wanted to see your world ever since I heard of it.

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-12-12 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Whenever you think it's a good time for me to visit I'll make time to come.

[identity profile] lanternlooking.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm looking forward to it.
