H.G. Wells, a rather marvelous author from my world, wrote a number of stories about their visions of the future world. Perhaps the most famous of these was depicted in The Time Machine.

Early in the story, Wells states:

"At first, proceeding from the problems of our own age, it seemed clear as daylight to me that the gradual widening of the present merely temporary and social difference between the Capitalist and the Labourer, was the key to the whole position."

I don't wish to bore anyone, so to put it in the simplest terms possible: "In the end, above ground you must have the Haves, pursuing pleasure and comfort and beauty, and below ground the Have-nots, the Workers getting continually adapted to the conditions of their labour."

Wells predicted this to be in place by the year 802,701. However, it's already starting to prove true. Man is reverting back to its primitive nature as the gap between the wealthy and the working-class continues to widen. The rich abuse their privileges as the labourers struggle to cope with the rapidly changing demands of those in power. Men prey upon other men as culture, if it may even be called that anymore, dissolves into a primitive bloodthirsty mess. Man has so many ways to kill each other now, not to mention the total apathy plaguing the world. The devolution into Eloi and Morlocks, on my world, is approaching much more rapidly than H.G. Wells himself could have imagined.

But enough of that; it's your turn. I suppose I'd like to hear what all of you believe lies in your world's future. Have any of you dreamed of a better future for your world? Or do you see only pain and destruction in the years to come?

I'm going to make sure there's a better future for my world.

By keeping an alien invasion from happening... Very few people here seem to see the signs.

Yeah, they do. In fact, one of them is walking around in a rather obvoius diguise. That world doesn't sound as exicting. No offense.

[Listening very carefully, even if quite a lot of that went a little over his head.]

I really can not consider much further into the future of the world at large, personally. But I would very much like it if this world could continue to be such a fascinating place.

No, Irkens.

Dull but more terrible?

I am originally from an era very long past; 'medieval' is the correct term, I believe. I was summoned through magic into a more modern time period--the winter of 1994 to be precise. And though I have a passing knowledge of how things have advanced, I find the finer details of the world simply amazing. Technology, architecture, literature, it's all amazing although somewhat foreign.

As for your other question, I find it best to remain optimistic in general. Though I realize that things could always go badly, I hold to my faith that the world will continue to advance filled with people as kind as those I have met on this community.

[Still on a boat, crouched over her device.]

We have seen only a small hint of our future and it is not bright. Many talk of bringing "civilization" to those who may not need it and taming the wild world.

I fear this will not be easy for either side.

That sounds like a pretty odd story. Do people there often write stories about their dreams of the future?

Generally, the best way to exist here is to think of the situation now before you think of the future. You change the future by changing the present. In the end, the future is what we make of it now.

Well, whenever things change there's certainly no way those changes can ever be completely good or completely terrible. This world is certainly no utopia, but I doubt any world could be. And I think it's amazing simply because it's something I never considered having a chance to experience.

I'd have to be pretty idealistic to imagine a world where "people" could be claimed to do anything for their futures.

But some people are. That's enough for them, I guess.

This whole "working class" thing is a human design. The humans I've seen seem pretty happy to be working.

Gellert and I have plans to make our world better in the future. Not just for us, but for our society.

My friends and I are going to change our futures...there's some things that'll happen that we have to change.

I know that we will fight; we will not let ourselves be tamed. We have tried all the words we can, there are no means left.

They're bug like with green skin, big red insect eyes and have antennas with vicious teeth. There's actually one on here.

Not really..

Any one thing...I think I would like it if more people understood the ideals and sense of honor so many knights held in my original time.

I have hoped for a way that does not end in blood.

He's not an insert. He just sorta resembles one. He's infiltrating so he can destory the Earth!

That's pretty lazy. I don't think even the hatchlings would be that lazy, and they still need to be fed.

From what I've seen of the other worlds, most of them are pretty far in the future compared to ours. Maybe it's just a development of the future.

People here make excuses about a lot of things too, but... they seem pretty dedicated to their jobs.
croibhristeoir: (you feel it break down)

I appreciate the compliment, thank you.

My name is Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, and I originally come from medieval Ireland. It was...well, more or less as the stories say, I am sure. Knights and their codes of honor, royalty, princesses, castles, and so on.

[Elizabeth pauses.] I suppose faith is all that we can have at this juncture.

We need to align others to our cause. Overthrow an old law that is keeping our society hidden and repressed.

My friend and his girlfriend...well, she'll be his wife by that point, but they get killed in a few years. And I go to jail for it even though I didn't have anything to do with it.

We have to change who we trust in the future.
