Accidental Video Canon Move
[The video is of James, sitting in his cabin onboard the Dutchman. He's clearly deep in thought, staring at a slew of papers across is desk, but not really seeing them.
Finally, he rises, moving through the ship. It's dark out, clearly long past nightfall, and James moves as if he's afraid of discovery, looking over his shoulder and around corners before he turns them. He descends through the ship until he reaches the brig -- which is full of Singaporean sailors -- and, standing at the front, a woman some might recognize from her time on the community.
There's a rattle of keys as James opens the door.]
Come with me. [He glares when no one moves.] Quickly!
[The men rush for the door, but Elizabeth hangs back, wary.]
What are you doing?
Choosing a side.
[He leads them up the stairs to where the Empress is tied onto the Dutchman, being towed.]
Do not go to Shipwreck Cove. Beckett knows of the meeting of the Brethren. I fear there may be a traitor among them.
It's too late to earn my forgiveness.
[Anger flares on James's face for a moment.] I had nothing to do with your father's death! [He hesitates, then looks away.] But that doesn't absolve me of my other sins.
[Elizabeth looks away, too, and speaks to the ocean instead of to him.] Come with us. [He stares at her, shocked, and she finally meets his eyes.] James, come with me.
[He's about to respond when there's a shout from off-screen -- "Who goes there?" James pushes Elizabeth behind himself and draws his sword.]
Go. I will follow.
[Elizabeth doesn't move, searching his face.]
You're lying!
[He's clearly caught out and surprised by the accusation, but he doesn't deny it.] Our fates have been entwined, Elizabeth. But never joined. [After a moment's hesitation, he leans in, kissing her firmly for a long moment.] Go, now!
[After a breath, Elizabeth does as she's told, scrambling onto the tow-rope and crab-walking back toward the Empress. James turns to face another form as it comes on-screen.]
Back to your station, sailor.
No one leaves the ship.
Stand down. That's an order.
An order? [He looks down, then steadies himself, raising his eyes again.] Part of the crew, part of the ship. Part of the crew, part of the ship!
[He begins repeating it over and over again, his eyes wild.]
Steady, man.
All hands! Prisoner escape!
Belay that!
[James brandishes his sword at Bootstrap, but Elizabeth's cry from behind him distracts him, and he turns toward her in time to see her slip. He draws his pistol, breaking the rope with a shot and splintering it. She splashes into the ocean. It's one second too long, because as he turns back, Bootstrab stabs him through the shoulder.]
James! No! No!
[The crew begins to gather around James, murmuring, "The admiral's dead.... the admiral's dead! The captain's coming!" Davy Jones stalks up. Mmmm, tentacles!]
James Norrington. Do you fear death?
[In answer, James summons the last of his strength, raising his arm and shoving his sword through Davy Jones's shoulder. His hand falls limply from the hilt.]
I'll take that as a no. [Jones considers the hilt protruding from his shoulder with mild interest.] Nice sword.
[OOC: James, Elizabeth, Bootstrap Bill, Davy Jones
James will be able to respond briefly to comments in the minutes before he dies -- for all the heart wrenching. Unfortunately, though, his world is closed to worldhops -- so no rescuing the admiral.]
