Accidental Video - A small canon leap
[As the video begins a battalion of knights on horseback can be seen charging onto a field where there stood an army of faceless knights standing in a large, but neat little rows and column formation. At the head of the army of horseback knights is a bearded man wearing a crown (clearly a king) and raising his sword, he is the first to strike out at the dark soldiers.
Instead of collapsing into a puddle of blood these dark knights shatter to pieces like dark glass sculptures. This stirs up some confusion, but the knights on horseback continue to attack until the entire dark army is little more rubble beneath them.
After the fast and furious battle, the victors raid what is left of the black knight’s supplies, including a locked wagon that had been toppled during the battle.]
Sire! A prisoner.
[The locks on the wagon are removed revealing the prisoner inside: a chained, dirty, and clearly terrified Ravenna. It is the King who stands in the doorway first and though he doesn’t seem imposing Ravenna shrinks away from him.]
Fear not. You will come to no harm from me or my men. [At this Ravenna looks up, still petrified] What is your name m’lady?
Ravenna, sire.
[And the scene ends here.
Only to open with a second scene.
Ravenna, clean, her blonde, wavy hair combed back over her shoulders. She’s wearing a white gown with gold embellishments and a golden crown of ivy resting delicately on her head. She seems distracted as two women fuss over her gown…and then a voice drags her out of her reverie.
It’s the voice of a young child who is watching as Ravenna is getting dressed.]
You’re so beautiful!
That’s kind child. Especially when it is said that yours is the face of true beauty in this kingdom. [Ravenna gestures toward the child, a very pretty little girl, with a smile on her face] Come.
[She kneels down to the child’s level as she speaks.]
This all must be difficult for you; I too lost my mother when I was a young girl. I can never take your mother's place, ever. But I feel that you and I are bound. I feel it there, your heart.
[The girl smiles again and as this scene ends another one opens.
It appears that a wedding is taking place and Ravenna can be seen wearing a more elaborate crown, her dress complete and beautiful. She’s walking down the aisle escorted by four knights, two on either side of her.
There are stands filled with excited people and behind her walks the child from earlier. Everyone looks thrilled, but Ravenna is surprisingly composed for a bride. She gives the child a backward glance before taking the arm of the king and bowing her head.
And then this scene comes to a close, the next one opening in the royal bedroom chambers. Ravenna, who is still dressed, but with the absence of many of her previous decorations, reclines back against the bed.
The king, her new husband, climbs above her.]
You’ll be the ruin of me.
Indeed my lord.
[The king bows his head and begins kissing her throat while Ravenna lies there completely unmoved.]
I was ruined by a king like you once. I replaced his queen, an old woman. And in time, I too would have been replaced. [At this point the king starts to make strange gasping noises, as though he were in pain, but Ravenna continues on, her voice calm and a little hard] Men use women, they ruin us and when they are finished with us they throw us to their dogs like scraps.
Forgive me
[Ravenna sits up slowly, her hand over the king’s heart. The king’s face looks pale, the veins showing through his skin as if it was little more than tissue paper.]
When a woman stays young and beautiful, the world is hers.
[Once she is completely upright Ravenna rolls the king over and perches herself on his stomach.]
First I will take your life my lord [and while the king lies helpless beneath her Ravenna withdraws a strategically hidden knife from the shelf of the bedpost] and then I will take your throne.
[And with that this scene ends with her plunging her knife into her husband’s heart.
Moments later another video opens on Ravenna walking swiftly across a courtyard toward the palace gates opening the door to an army of men and her brother who’s face she gives an affectionate touch.]
Welcome, brother.
My queen.
[In this final scene, Ravenna can be seen walking among the chaos that has exploded within the palace. The king's men and loyal followers who were unfortunate enough to stay behind and not escape, choosing to stand and fight instead, are mowed down by her knights.
She floats by it all as if none of it is happening until she enters a circular room, simple, with a huge fire in the center and candles decorating the walls. She’s followed by two of her knights carrying something under a drape.
When the object is unveiled it looks like a large circular plate made of gold with a reflective surface. They place this circular object in a nook on the wall.]
Out.
[And when they don’t move fast enough for her liking.]
OUT!
[Once she’s alone Ravenna paces before the golden plate-like object, for the first time she appears to be affected by something, looking almost agitated as she takes clipped, measured steps in front of the mirror.]
Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?
[The surface of the mirror melts into a liquid that slithers on the floor in front of her before reforming itself into a tall, faceless, humanoid figure. This figure answers her:]
It is you, my queen. Yet another kingdom falls to your glory. Is there no end to your power and beauty?
[For the first time a touch of emotion can be seen in her face, her eyes expressing relief and once more, for the final time the scene ends and the video cuts.]
