[05 ~ Accidental Video | Canon Update]

[The video feed opens in what looks to be a common room, possibly of some kind of inn, with everyone (save Estelle) gathered around.]

( OOC: 7:02 to the cut to white at about 10:37, except the very end changes a bit as below starting at 10:04. )

[Rita keeps tapping at the blastia's control interface, but it's not looking good.] At this rate, it'll either swallow the city or even explode.

[A flash of memory; she hesitates for a moment.] Explode...? [She's oblivious to the panicking civilians behind her, and her hands are on autopilot.] Wait, this is...! I remember this!

[She makes this realization just in time to hear her name called behind her, and a pinkette she really doesn't want to see right now running toward her, and starting to shine with light as she does.] Estellise...! No, you have to get out of here! [Rita can feel herself being torn between finishing her work and making sure Estellise survives; either way, she only has a few seconds.]

[Pushing herself, she gets the adjustments made and unceremoniously tackles Estellise to get her out of the way, just in time; the barrier blastia explodes just as she starts to move. It's hard to tell much else through the bright white, though. The feed cuts out without showing anything else.]

( OOC: As usual, replies will come about an hour later, from both Rita and Yuri (second_star). By default Rita is conscious again for replies to either, but she can still be out cold if desired. )

Somehow. Just... tired. Getting caught in a blastia explosion isn't high on my list of things I enjoy.

[Rita appears, sitting up but apparently resting in bed.]

Yeah. I admit, this was not one of my brightest ideas. I'm just glad nobody was hurt, honestly, as big as the explosion was.

No, they're not. I blow things up for a living and this is still a pain. Part of me wants go check on him and examine the damage, but I can't even get out of bed right now. [She's not happy about it, either.]

Hmmm... is there any safety issues then?

I wouldn't know, since I haven't checked. The worst-case scenario would be if the barrier blastia went offline in the explosion; that would mean that the monsters are free to come in and harm the town and the citizens.

Thankfully, the Imperial Knights have a base here, so even if that does happen, it'll be okay until they can get the barrier online again.

In my world, we do not have such things to protect our villages. We rely solely on the strength of the soldiers.

Somehow... but it was a close thing. Estellise wasn't hurt as badly as I was, but she burned herself out healing me, so she's resting now. [She glances to something off-camera, smiling slightly.]

[Rita frowns.] I wish that were an option. So do the Knights. But some of the monsters are just too strong. And some cities don't even have permanent Knights assigned. So places like Halure would be totally defenseless without barrier blastia.

My friends and I had a healer with our team once. I'm glad you're treating her kindly. Ringo-chan was very nice, and we always had to keep her safe.

There are no heroes then? No wandering adventurers that can be called upon in times of need?

She's important to us. Aside from being a princess - which some of our party just found out today coughKarolcough - she can fight, too, even if she's not great at it.

...It sounds like you all were close.

*giggles* I see. You're right, all of my friends are important to me, too.

[The girl snorts.] Yeah. We're it. Yuri is leading our intrepid group - all five of us, one of whom is a princess - on a mission to retrieve the aque blastia core for the capital's aque blastia, which is the lower quarter's fresh water source.

Along the way we've had to defend the princess, Yuri's been attacked by some weird chump and a bunch of people with red-eyed goggles, and we've gotten into all kinds of trouble.

[Rita hesitates for a moment.] Friends... you know, I'm not sure when I stopped thinking of her as the princess that was a pain to deal with, and started to see her as... something more, I guess. Maybe a friend. It'd be the first one I've had in a long, long time.

I haven't really done the whole "friends" thing before, honestly. It's been kind of a pain.

This is going to sound really awkward, but... what do I do? I mean, it's not like I disliked her or anything, but Estelle got kinda closer than I thought I'd be able to let her in, and- [She stops, clapping her hand over her mouth.] Dammit, it slipped out!

[Rita blushes a bit, realizing there's no going back now.] Stupid nickname...

It's all right! Really! I mean, um, I shouldn't tell you what to do, but... it's okay, really, if you like somebody even when you didn't think you should.

No, I asked you, don't worry about it. But... it's not that I don't think I should. It's that I don't really know how. Nobody's ever liked me for me before. They just wanted me to be smart for them.
