Ah! There it is. I thought that it might work.

This must be the community of ducks my dear niece was telling me about. Great-niece, actually, but never mind that.

I thought I should inform you all that my niece, Miss Sophie Hatter, has decided to go forth and seek her fortune. She left her magic book in my care, you see so I imagine she will be out of touch for quite some time. She told me of her friends here, and wishes you not to worry. She will be quite alright, I imagine.

My name is Sophie as well. Old Sophie, that is. She is my namesake, after all. [She gives a wry smile.] A pleasure to meet you all, even if the method is rather strange.

But-- wait, you mean that she did it? She really left just like that?

And you as well. Are you one of the friends Sophie mentioned?

It took some convincing from her sisters, but yes.

But that's great! I was worried that she might never leave at all.

Were you? And why is that?

... well, mostly it's just that she always seemed convinced that being the eldest meant she wouldn't ever have any luck doing that sort of thing, so it's... kind of like she'd decided she had to do what her family arranged for her just because of that. So, I guess I'm just glad that she changed her mind and decided to take a chance. She deserves to find out what it is she really wants to do.

It's very kind of you to think that of her. Unfortunately where we are, there is a lot of emphasis put on being the eldest of three.

It doesn't really seem fair. Just 'cause there's an idea about something that everyone seems to believe, it doesn't always make it true, you know?

Yeah, I guess so. I hope she'll be okay out there. And uh, sorry if I said anything that sounded out of line.

So, I guess she must've told you everything you need to know about the community already if you have her book, right?

I believe that she has. Though I will be interested to see how those viruses that she mentioned, play out.

Oh, yeah... you'll wanna watch out for those. Some of them aren't so bad, but every so often we get something pretty awful.
