[Rita's not entirely sure what happened as she starts to wake up. Last she knew, she was in the Mushroom Kingdom, training; she may or may not have come home before she went to bed, though as far as she's concerned that memory is not as important. No, what's important now is... well, a collection of things. First, the place she's in isn't the same as the once she left in any capacity - even without actively feeling for it, she can't detect aer in this place, or at least there's a trace amount at best. Second, there was a clock with odd glowing numbers... not in her usual familiar script, either, though she could read it easily enough. How it was powered without aer was another question entire, and one she didn't want to deal with just now.
Third, a quick assessment of her physical faculties... returned an inability to move anything below her waist. Poking her legs didn't help; it was like they weren't there. Which, thinking on it a little more, was extremely worrying, and oddly familiar.
...Fourth, after a few moments, was a sharp pain that seemed to come from everywhere but blossomed most strongly in her chest. She couldn't help but scream and clutch at her heart, the first sound she's made since she came to. But... the pain was extreme, and it was some time before she could calm down enough to get her bearings again.]
What... was that?
[She reaches up to run her hand through her hair, and feels something there. Something... she seems to recognize. Pulling it out to look, she freezes. They're hairbands, that were tied into her bangs. One big and pink, two thin and yellow. And suddenly, everything starts to fall into place, and in a rush of horror she calls her magic to her (with a brief rush of relief that it's responding to her; further reassurance that whatever the hell happened the other day, it was over now) and tries to analyze the body she's in for any useful information. The answers that come in are... confusing, and worrying. There's something wrong about how all this feels... but it's pretty clear that her legs just aren't going to work, and whatever's causing it... it's moving up, toward richer targets. One way or another, she wasn't liking this analysis. And there was an odd sense of... being tethered to something. Something close, and something big.]
What the hell is this? If I follow the flow... [Her eyes slide up to the bookshelf near the bed, and she can't suppress a gasp.] Oh, shit. Dammit, dammit, dammit, this is not what we needed...! She's going to...!
[Why hello, tome of purest black. It almost hurt to probe it with her magic... strike that, it did hurt; it was actively pushing her analysis away. What she was getting, though, scared her to the core. She needed to do some research when she got home, pronto. If this thing was what it looked like... she was getting the chills already.]
This damn thing... I've gotta...
[After a moment's struggling, Rita brought herself to face Hayate's mirror, sitting up in the bed. Her expression is supremely depressed, and she looks exhausted as she wills the mirror to broadcast her, not realizing it's been watching since shortly after she woke. The grimace on her face is far too defeated to be Hayate, but...]

[...clearly it is, and the girl herself seems to get even more depressed for a second when she sees it for herself. Soon enough, though, she shakes her head.]
Hey... Hayate, if you're out there, we need to talk. As soon as you get a chance.
And, uh... the rest of you... what the hell's going on? I feel like I got hit by Barbos a few dozen times.

Who is that? With all the switching, it's hard to tell.

Yagami-san! I mean, Hayate-chan! I mean -- not Yagami-san, just -- hello! Are you all right?
no subject
Hi, Sena... wait, switched? Does that mean...?
[She's a little out of the loop here.]

Oh, right, I'm in Hayate's body... uh. It's Rita Mordio. Mage, blows things up often? We all got shuffled around, then?

[Oh, look, she found the Book of Darkness. This can't end well.]

I'm as okay as I'm getting, honestly. Sorry to worry you. I just... she's hiding things from us again. This body of hers isn't going to last much longer, and it's making sure she - and by extension, I - knows it.

Re: 2/2 [locked]
That's uh, I mean... well...
[Rita has a terrible lying face, amplified by Hayate's flailing.] It's um... well...
It's a magic book?

[locked]
...You may know this already, but this book is connected to you. Or at least, to your body... to the source of your magic. Your... I don't remember what that kid called it. Some kind of core. And that bothers me, like you wouldn't believe.
Re: [locked]
The book was sent to me a while ago as a present, and on my birthday, after the party it activated. Something came out of me and was absorbed into the book. After that, my family appeared to me. Signum, Shamal, Vita and Zafira. And they said I was now the "Mistress of the Book".
They told me that filling the pages could grant me a wish, but... I didn't want it. So I've just been living with them, treating the Knights of the book as my family.

Really? Yagami-san is? But I thought we all knew she'd get better!
no subject
Great. Nobody is anybody and I get to play doctor when I can't find the patient.
...I guess it's better than some of the alternatives, mind you.
no subject
That would explain it. Guess I ended up in Hayate's body... and damn, what a time to be here. I think I've... figured a few things out.

...I have to admit, I'm worried. I think this thing is what's causing your paralysis. What's... killing you.

I have to admit, I could be wrong. I'm specialized in offensive magic, not healing. But there's some serious stuff in here. I'm going to keep looking for a solution. If I can't find one, though... no. I'm going to keep trying. I'm not giving up just because some damn blastia wannabe decided it wanted to prey on one of my friends!

So that's why magical healing would always undo itself, too...

Re: [locked]
O-okay. Keep trying. I'll try to find something here that might help too.

Rita-san...

Whatever we find... we'll fix things. Count on that, Hayate.

[Her fist balls, and she drives it into the mattress in anger.] Dammit...
no subject
Rita-san, please! I'm sure we can help! Somebody must...

We will find a way. That's not up for debate. We just need to figure out what it is and make it happen.
[She takes a deep breath, leaning back on her arms.]
Sorry, I got a little worked up. I'm more than a little worried, but... I shouldn't be snapping at you.

No, it's okay. You can if you want to.
no subject
Nah. I'll save my anger for something more deserving, Retasu. But thanks.
...Her family. That's got to be the next place to look. They showed up right after the birthday party, and this thing wasn't here then... hmm.

But they wouldn't hurt her, would they?

So you're sure that they did it?
no subject
I need to talk to them. Soon.
