As for the Tome... yes, that's what our research found. "Book of Darkness" is a name it took some time after it was corrupted; if even the Wolkenritter call it that, then maybe something's happened, and they don't know what it was like before. The Knights "live" inside the book, between incidents, and from what we can tell they don't keep their memories from one appearance to the next. Perhaps whatever point they reset to between awakenings has been corrupted, and they've lost their memories of the Tome's true form?
