Why do things like diaries exist? There's no point in recording each act of your play when it is useless and benefits no one. There's no audience member who will read it all at the end and be moved or laugh at the pitiful actions the actors took to stay onstage or to force the curtain from falling.

Except, of course, for him. A diary is a pitiful thing, but his ideals are pitiful as well. Perhaps forcing everyone to write one so I can give it to him as a farewell present would make the tragedy even worse for him. Knowing what went on behind the stage might possibly make each ending stab even deeper into his heart. A twist of the knife to cause him to cry..that shall be a wonderful reaction. It is what he deserves until he can come to the truth.

Hey, buddy, I think I've got some bad news for you. We all kind of saw that. I don't know what the hell it means... do you write movies or or something? Oh, oh, wait, I got it, you're from way back in the old times and shit. Plays?

[Why was the diary writing back to him? Was this some odd piece of Lost Technology that had gotten lost in the chaos of The Fall? He would have to show his Master this later. But, for now..a reply was in order. Even if Legato didn't really understand what this idiotic human-was it a human?-meant by 'the old times' or who they were referring to by 'we all'.]

I don't write scripts for movies. However, who are you? Why is this diary writing back to me, and what do you mean by 'we all'? I don't know what you mean by 'back in the old times' either. I am a pretty young calf.

Oh, you're new. So, nobody explained this place? It always sounds kind of weird, like something out of a movie. Did you ever see that stuff where there's like a lot of different worlds?

No. I simply opened a diary I found and scribbled down my thoughts. A useless act, but it did take some of the sting off living. What am I new to though? And I have never seen a film, though I do know that there are different planets in the universe.

For the love of... [There's the sound of a few pages turning as someone who just discovered his own device comes across such cryptic writings. In the end he comes back to this page, the last one. For something that looks on the outside like a pocket bible, the insides are pretty haphazard.] Is this supposed to be a new Revelations?

It's more than planets, it's like... what are they called? Universes, I guess? Think sci-fi. You're in your world, I'm in mine, and it's all connected through this thing. So, when you write in your book, we see it.

So..different realities are connected through this device? This is quite an interesting piece of Lost Technology..though I don't know how all the vermin would be able to create something like this while my Master remained unaware.

[He would really have to talk to his Master about this.]

However..what sort of reality are you living in? One populated by humans?

Wow, that doesn't sound like a very fun play at all! With this kind of advertising, I don't know how many people you'll be able to get. Maybe you should try a different angle, like a love story! Everybody loves it when the handsome hero gets the girl!

[Wolfwood was lucky that he and Legato had never spoke, otherwise, he would have picked up on his voice. As it is though, he just scribbles back.]

No, though the end is indeed coming. Apparently our books allow us to connect to other realities. They're quite interesting pieces of technology.

[Vash was incredibly lucky that he had never heard Vash's voice. Sure, he knew what the Plant looked like, as his brother told him, but that was it. It was why they were still looking for him to get the tragedy underway. So, he just continued to scribble in response to this stranger.]

It shall be a wonderful, beautiful play. However, it is a tragedy designed for only one audience member. There may be others who try to watch, but they shall find themselves pulled onto the stage as well. And a love story wouldn't give the right reaction to the audience. It shall be a play designed to make them think and suffer.

Pft, I wish. There's some humans but it's mostly populated by people taken over by...I guess you probably have no idea what a Cordycep is, huh?

[Had he been described as a handsome blonde outlaw, with a quick hand, and sharp wit? If not, his brother had undersold him and Vash wasn't happy with that at all!]

This really is horrible advertising. [That much was mumbled.] A play is no fun if nobody else can watch. Are you just starting out? Beginning can be the worst but you should try for a bigger audience. Do you have a name? I sure hope it's brighter than the description.

Wagh! [And then the text flows, apparently in response to what he's said. The book fumbles between his hands as he keeps from dropping it, trying to flip back to that last page, noting in passing an array of other writings, scribbles, and pictures. He'll focus on rereading those words that just appeared, making an unseen skeptical face for a few moments before muttering to himself while digging for a pen.] Some kind of lost technology? Or... [He considers it a lot more likely that he's finally just gone insane from the heat or dehydration or some such and is having visions. Still, for a hallucination, the sand in his shoes and the sweat and the need for a cigarette feel pretty distinct, as does the pen in his grip that he finally manages to fish out. The audio tapers out as he turns the page, tapping the tip there a few times before writing back, since the book is apparently feeling conversational.

Man, if God's chosen him to be the prophet to receive the New Gospel, what does that mean for the state of the clergy on this hellhole of a planet?]

What do you mean the end is coming?

No..but it seems it is some form of parasite. Am I wrong? Why not exterminate everyone that's been taken over?

[Sorry, Ellie. He knows a lot, but not everything, and especially not about nature that wouldn't exist on a desert planet. His Master didn't think he had to know about that.]

Hey, no, that's a pretty good guess. It's a fungus that takes over. It has these spores that spread and if you breathe 'em in, they take you over. You can get infected by a bite or scratch, too.

They're tryin', but there's a lot and the spores don't need bodies. It's mostly a few cities they keep contained and rule over like assholes.

[While the yelp and the sounds of the mans astonishment were amusing, Legato didn't smile at them, but there was something the man said that caught his attention. Lost Technology. So, this amusing, terrible human was from his reality too.]

That is what I mean, though if you think that this is Lost Technology too, then we are both from the same reality.

[He had been more or less described as an idiot who clung to the beliefs of a worthless human being and had to be taught the error of his ways, especially for trying to kill Knives.

Vash wouldn't really be happy with that description, or the sort of play Legato had in mind.]

I'm not trying to advertise my play. I had no idea what I held in my hands until it started talking back to me. And it is not meant to be pleasant to the audience, though I shall find it very entertaining.

[Vash's suffering would be sweeter than any cake or dessert.]

The play hasn't quite started, as it's still lacking the audience. And I am Legato Bluesummers. Who are you?

[It isn't exactly writing in a way that makes him think The-Capital-G-God or some angelic intermediate is communicating with him with talk of diaries or being on the same realities, whatever that means. Still, a decidedly magical book is telling him about some kind of terrible end. Or rather, it seems more like someone using it as a communications device than the book itself.

After muddling over whether to ask about the end or the reality first, he supposes the book might be getting impatient and writes back something more conversational than a demand for answers.]

I'm not sure how in touch with reality either of us are, writing to magical pen pals like this.

Well, someone took their creepy pills.

[Normally, Legato wouldn't respond to a comment like that. However, this device is interesting enough that he scribbles back a reply.]

I haven't. Pills like that do not exist.

[If Wolfwood had written his concerns about this being god or one of his angels, Legato would have quickly denied being either. After all, he was just another terrible, disgusting, rotting human that needed to be tossed out like the rest of them, even if it couldn't happen just yet. But, since Wolfwood didn't, Legato just wrote a reply to what the user on the other end had stated.]

I believe we are both sane for the moment. If it's Lost Technology, it might be fully capable of doing something like this, though I don't know how. I don't know too much about it works.

[While his Master had told him a few basic things and given him the history about Lost Technology, Legato didn't really know the limits of its capabilities. He just knew enough to get by and plan out his play.]

[Well..this was interesting. A plant was trying to live off and kill humans. That sounded like a good end for humanity-pieces of junk though they were, at least they could sustain the fungus before they all died because of it. The fungus probably wouldn't die, if there were other things it could use to sustain itself. Plants, after all, were much more hardy than 'cattle'.]

I see. It sounds like the curtain is going to fall on the human race very soon in your reality then. At least they can all continue to provide in their final moments.

You just picked it up by chance too? Where was yours?

[While waiting for a reply, he starts to flip back through a few more pages; if that's the case, really, it seems a lot of people have stumbled across something that should be pretty rare. That's when he remembers a mention of other realities.]

I found it as I was leaving a small restaurant I stopped in. I wanted to think about why humans log their days, as it's a meaningless gesture, but I found something interesting instead.

Where was yours? And who are you, for that matter?

You just reminded me of a couple of witches.
