I, um, I suppose this is an upgrade? But they don't really do anything different, except I can sort of dual-wield now instead of having to use them both to shoot one round of water. Anyway, that isn't really the point here, so, um...

If everyone else you know has gotten "upgrades" when they were actually on active duty, and you've been a magical girl over five years and just had this happen when you were fighting someone else's enemies, that doesn't say anything about you, does it? Please don't let it mean I'm terrible.

People get stronger at different rates. And sometimes it takes a drastic situation to increase your power. I know I spent most of my life trying to master basic spells, but the more I had to improvise in battle, the better my magic became.

But you'd think I would have peaked long ago.

I don't think there is such a thing as reaching your peak. You're always going to find something about yourself to surprise you.

It's impossible to just stop learning. Sometimes, it's deliberate, and sometimes it's by accident. If you can gain new normal skills, why not the same with magic?

It just seems to happen in specific kinds of situations.

What kind of situations?

Well, when someone's stuck in a fight with an enemy they've had for a while, and usually at or around the same time that all their friends get the same kind of powerup.

I wouldn't know. Does someone give you your weapons, or to they appear magically? Or do they do both?

They just sort of adapt and mutate when we do.

Yes, but it isn't common in any case.
