It may be a bit early to ask, but I'd like to get a good sense of what to do ahead of time...what do couples do on Valentine's Day?

See, this is the first time in a while that my partner and I have had a vacation of sorts. Since Valentine's day is around the corner and we've never experienced the holiday for ourselves, I would like to get a few ideas for the special occasion. Any suggestions?

I don't know yet, actually! I'd like to go out at least. It's been such a long time since I've dragged my Kosuke-kun out anywhere.

The government doesn't exactly like having their expensive pieces of equipment walk out the door without notice! We have to get permission first, then the location and the time we'll be away.

No matter what, both of us are constantly working, and headquarters depends on us to make everything run smoothly. Luckily the next few days are slow, so we have time for ourselves. Right now I'm just appreciating the time I have!

Is it good to be surprised with things like this? I know some people don't like it...

Oooo, I see. I guess when you're that important, holidays are hard to come by. Even if Valentines comes and goes, you can still do something nice with your sweetheart whenever you get the chance.

It depends a lot on the person! I love surprises and Kosuke knows that.

Kinda like what you do on a marriage/dating anniversary! Except you don't have to be with them for a while. Like, you do the same things. Flowers, chocolates, and stuff. For the one you love/like or whatever.

Well, it really depends on the person. Most people go on dates on Valentine's Day, but I understand that most of Japan has a strange social structure where girls are expected to get chocolates for all the guys in their lives...

What you're really looking for are suggestions on what to do for the day though? Hmm... Well, what does she like to do? Let's start from there to figure something out.

That is a common custom here, but since we are unable to eat, chocolate would be pointless. I'm doing this as a surprise for her anyways...

Well, flowers could still work then. Make sure they have a good scent, though. It's important to try to find something that appeals to the senses, I think.

...Well, I'm partial towards dolls, but most people think it's childish. Cute clothes are good too, especially if they feel nice... But then, most people seem to prefer something practical...

Dolls? Hmm, do you think she would like a stuffed animal, or a doll? It's not the most practical, but at least they last a long time.

Well, this is the first time I'll actually have a girlfriend on Valentine's Day, so I guess I'm not the best person to ask, but... I'll be giving her flowers, and maybe taking her out for a meal. Seems to be a good thing to do.
