Injuries

Asking the community: Is it heat or cold for bruising?

Before anyone asks, it's for a friend, obviously.

Anyone have an ice pack they could lend me?

...ow. I didn't know you could bruise there.

When do we get to play with real swords?

((OOC: both locks hackable by someone with technical skill. Tyki's not that great with computers yet.))

Warm is more for sore muscles. Though a combination of the two usually helps.

Cold to keep the swelling down, then a heat pad to relax the muscles. You'll be ready when I say so, which is far from now, by today's results. Your body is in good shape, but you panic in a situation you can't control.

I use both. Makes the bruise go away faster.

[identity profile] mortally.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
It works pretty well...

I'm well. And you?

Aww, come on, wouldn't hurt to try~!

Tell me the results.

You seem to be apt at injuring your acquaintances.

Yet be assured the previous comments were truthful; cold is for swelling, heat for muscular ache.

Forgive my inquiry, for you do not seem the sort to accidentally injure another person so frivolously. At least by a bruising. Would it seem too prying to ask how this effect was rendered?

Understandable. However, after a demonstration of your talents, I confess having difficulties believing you may have become bruised.

At least with any sort of ease on your assailant's part. Does the individual yet live, or had you allowed yourself to be injured intentionally?

[identity profile] clockmaster.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hi Mr. Mikk. If you want to take a proper care of the bruise, rest the bruised area. This permits the blood to clot more quickly, which limits the spread of blood beneath the skin.

Apply a cold compress to the bruise'20 minutes on, 20 minutes off'as often as you can for the first day or two. The cold will constrict blood vessels and help keep the bruise from spreading. Never apply ice directly to the skin. Always use an ice pack or a cold compress.

You should avoid aspirin until the bruise has started to heal. Aspirin is an anticoagulant, which prevents blood from clotting as quickly. Blood that does not clot spreads more extensively underneath the skin. But you ca take acetaminophen for pain. This does not affect clotting.

Then you can apply a warm, wet compress after the first 48 hours to reduce pain and swelling. Heat is recommended once the blood has stopped spreading around the bruise. Heat dilates blood vessels, which will help speed the sweeping away of blood cells from around the ruptured vessels.

I play fencing, that’s why I’m used to bruises. Can I ask how you get hurt?

(OOC: Sorry about the long explanation, but Hakuba is like that when you ask him something XD)

Tyki is, then.

Welcome, and sorry, I talk too much sometimes. But knowledge is power, right? Good to know you're ok, if you need more help just give me a call.

Very likely it is your fault this 'friend' of yours is bruised. Dumbass.

[identity profile] xxkandayuuxx.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't leave your 'friend' alive.

[identity profile] heavenly-home.livejournal.com 2008-08-29 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my, Tyki-kun are you hurt?

I hope this will help:
"A cold compress such as an icepack or a bag of frozen peas should be applied to the affected area for 20-30 minutes in order to speed healing and reduce swelling. Do not apply ice directly to the skin. Wrap the icepack in a towel." Found here. (http://firstaid.webmd.com/bruises_treatment_firstaid.htm)

Oh my, I hope your friend gets better quickly! Good luck. :-)
