The past few days. Didn't happen. I'm chalking it up to temporary insanity. So, just forget everything I said before.

Yeah. I'm sure. I just woke up one day and he'd abandoned the campsite. He'd made sure to cover his trail, so I wouldn't be able to follow after him.

Nothing could have happened to that man. He's one of the best Drifters I've ever seen. He's a dead-eye shot and he never misses his target.

He's out there, somewhere. I know he is.

I tried that. After he left. But no matter how far I managed to follow his trail, he'd always be three steps ahead of me.

Look, the old man obviously doesn't want to be found. And at this point, I don't really care if I ever see him again or not.

((Maraich did something similar in his own life, so he knows people can leave other people's lives and still care about them.
He has no idea what happened in this case, though. It just doesn't sound right to him.))
