Bah, I was only partially responsible for what happened, why do I have to pay for all the repairs myself?!
How was I supposed to know the solvent would go all the way to the Earth's core, anyway? I mean, sure, it was designed to dissolve nearly everything, but you'd think... well... Fine, maybe I just didn't think it all the way through! Would anyone have seen a volcano coming, though?!
[And ring ring ring goes the phone, which Scrooge answers by sugar-coating his voice as much as he can, though some bitterness still slips through.]
Oh, hello, Mr. Vandergilt!... My, you sound tired. What's wrong?
[Silence.]
WHAT?! I-- Well, I never-- Well, true, I didn't weigh the diamonds, but I didn't think--
[And it goes on, with even more grumbling and related conversations that mostly consist of intimidated voices replying to Scrooge's growling.]
