Sometimes that doesn't always work. It's better to at least get an understanding of the local area, that way if they start asking questions you can fake it! Fake it until you make it, right?

Don't get me wrong, Zuko's place is ... kind of huge, so getting lost in it would totally be plausible. But, I'm not too worried about it. There's not much traveling going on.
