That's never stopped aliens from lurking around Earth if you go upturning rocks. [She considers not calling him on that, but her own curiosity is too great not to.] And you've not answered my question, Doctor. How long have you got before you can start skipping around at your own speed again?

True, but every universe is different, Rose, some more than others. I've hacked into everywhere I can while I've been on this world and I can't find any records about any aliens or organisations set up to fight them no matter how deep I go. If first contact is coming to this world, and it probably is at some point since they're well overdue for it by 2311, it's taking its time about it. Well, unless you count me.

[Ah, drat, he's been caught! There's a pause before he replies.] ... I can't.

[His voice is quiet. The one he uses when he's upset. Rose should know the one.] Rose, with everything that happened at Christmas I still regenerated. I shouldn't even be here right now, but for some reason the community and the TARDIS managed to somehow convert everything about this regeneration into binary. I'm a temporal anomaly, I shouldn't even be walking around right now.

[He sucks in a breath.] Basically, the TARDIS is lost to me. She passed on to the next me after the regeneration, and that's how it should be.

No...that's not fair. Cos you are walking around, and this place...it's full of 'shouldn't be'. The other Doctor...he said he's from a different universe than you. So that means the TARDIS is still there in yours.

[shaking his head] It doesn't always work that way. The me on here and the me I... sort of still regenerated into, they're in parallel timelines, the tiniest of splits caused by me joining this place in my tenth regeneration this timeline and the me here now not finding it till he was the eleventh. [he shrugs.] It's complicated, but things like this happen.

Mmm, it's a thought, but to be honest this universe isn't bad to have a base, at least for now. It'd be worse if I couldn't world-hop at all, but, well, they're kind of like family here. I know, I know, [putting his hands up as if to ward off any protests], hearing me describe people as family is all a bit domestic and mental, but things kind of snuck up on me. [Tugging his ear awkwardly.] Trying to get hold of a ship though, or build one, that isn't such a bad plan...
