Looks like it was Father's Day, huh? You know, you'd think it'd be tough to forget about that, what with all the advertisements and the fact I kind of helped Billy go shopping for it the other day. I guess I just sort of don't notice at this point.

At least not in any relation to myself. It was just sort of weird seeing it all over the community. Heh. So uh. What's up?

Can't, really. My father's gone and I don't even have grandfathers around, so my hands are a bit tied. I did help Billy with his dad, at least. So that's something. Even if Mr. Kaplan doesn't really know it.

I think so. Pretty much, anyway. I never met my dad, but I hear he was a good person, so thinking about him is something.

Oh, uh. We went to the mall together and picked out something for his dad. I helped choose it and pay for it and everything, it's just that Mr. Kaplan thinks it's just from Billy. No big deal.

It must help to know he was good person. This day must make you think of him more.

It was really nice of you! Even if a kid wants to do something, sometimes it hard for them. Is Billy a friend of yours?

Yeah, it kind of does. I do kind of wish I'd gotten a chance to meet him, you know? But things are how they are, so I'll just keep him in mind.

Yeah, Billy has a hard time with the mall and shopping in general so...heh. Oh. Um. Billy's my boyfriend.

I wish you could have too but I believe they never really leave us. They're with us, even now.

Oh. Is it possible for you to celebrate Father's Day with them then?

You think so? Like...spirits and stuff, you mean?

Not really. Neither of our families knows about us yet. I mean, it isn't like we go out of our way to keep it a secret, but they don't actually know.

I believe they watch over us but I think they move on. They're with us in other ways. With every life he affected, he left a piece of himself. That includes you too.

Oh um. Actually, I think my mom might know. I'm pretty sure she does. But Billy hasn't been comfortable with coming out to his parents just yet, that's all.

Are you from Japan, by any chance? I've heard they have shrines for those they love that have passed on.

Nah, I'm from the USA. Here it's mostly about visiting gravesites.

Then you do have graves! I visited my parent's grave often but I always made a special trip on that day. You could do the same.
