[It was a beautiful landscape, verdant as the armor of the knight that stood upon it facing down his death without hesitation. As far as scenery went, he realized one certainly could have done worse.]

[The sword Beagalltach struck its target, as it always had. But the golden eyes of its owner widened in shock as he saw the blade shatter against the boar's skin--in a split second that seemed to last hours the knight in earthen colors watched as each shard of his precious sword glint silver in the light of the sun, felt the weight of no more than a hilt in his hand, and knew this was his final moment.]

['You made this hunt for my death, and if it is here I am to find my death, I have no use in running from it now.']

[He'd done enough running.]

[Fionn had planned this. The knight had known that from the moment the two of them parted ways minutes beforehand. Then again...he'd known years ago. On the night he'd eloped with Grainne, he knew it would mean his death at Fionn's hands.]

[And that was alright. Even if he couldn't have died honorably in a battle with the lord he had so wronged, it was alright.]

[Because he had done what was right.]

[So even as the boar's tusk impaled his stomach, the knight felt no regrets. He struck with Beagalltach's hilt; he wasn't sure if it was a fatal strike or not. The next thing the knight knew, he was on the ground overwhelmed by pain and the smell of blood--his? It must have been, who else could have been injured like this? Hopefully no one, the knight thought absentmindedly. Better him than someone else, right?]

[What was he supposed to be concentrating on, again? Grainne...she'd worry when he didn't return home. He wondered if she had any idea that Fionn had still wanted him dead even now.]

['It is a pity all the women of Ireland can not see you as you are now.']

[Someone was speaking to him. That spite and anger could only belong to one man, and the knight accepted his lord's hatred without complaint. He had every right to hold a grudge. What sane man wouldn't, after having his betrothed stolen by his most faithful knight? But it had been right, and so he was fine with this. The knight didn't regret any of it, even as the pain of betrayal tore at his heart more than any blade ever could. His lord could easily have healed even such a mortal wound, and yet he hesitated--dazedly the knight heard his brethren arguing with their leader over how healing him was right, how their lord's spite would tear apart the Fianna...]

[...ah, what a wreck the knight had made of things. He silently lamented the Fianna, for surely this would divide them beyond repair; he'd never wanted that for his beloved countrymen.]

[The path he'd chosen was the only one as far as he was concerned. He would defend his actions to his last breath--in fact, he'd done just that.]

['Do not blame me for that, Fionn. What did I ever do against you save for that one thing; you know well that Grainne put a geas on me, and I would not break that for the wealth of the entire world.']

[If his death would ease the anger of his lord, then it was alright. He was even now merely a knight in service to the best of them all, and even in the face of betrayal his loyalty would not waver.]

It's a virus. Judging by the number of entries and the variety, we're being hit by multiple kinds at once, which doesn't happen more than once or twice a year. I assume that was a memory.

So the entire community now presumably knows who I am.

Ah, well. I suppose there could be worse fates.

Rider announced himself when he joined. I doubt it will be much of a problem for your identity to be known.

To my knowledge, Rider announces himself everywhere. My Master would surely have preferred I kept a bit more secrecy if I could.

There was nothing you could have done about this. If he finds out he'll have to be at least a bit understanding.
