'tis a strange manner of device. Perhaps Sypha stashed it among my things before I had left? Though I'm sure that I would have picked up on it before this.

I hadn't even put any writing in this beforehand and yet so much comes and goes at an alarming pace. 'Tis a very curious book indeed. I do not know what my wife was thinking if she was the one to slip this into my pack – perhaps a way for us to communicate while I am away to perform my duty? It is a likely option, though that doesn't explain the other writing. I do not recognize any of the penmanship of who has all written in here beforehand.
