[video | a little trip down memory lane]

[Helena has nothing better to do, so she's taking a little trip down good old memory lane to pass the time. The subject? One of her favourite inventions, her rocket. The best part? It just so happens to coincide with an interesting case she and her partner at the time never were able to solve. And the best best part? This particular memory takes place in 1893, back when H.G. a) was one hell of a lot younger and b) still had all of her marbles. Yay!]

[ooc: Ignore the bit in the beginning about Christina, the writers decided to bump up the year of her demise about eight years in this episode, despite screencaps from a previous episode that states otherwise. >/ Gahhh.]

Did you happen to discover 'his' next book?

[ And because this is clearly what happened to her: ] The community shared your thoughts.

Ah, yes. His story. [It practically kills her to talk about her brother in such a positive light and in regards to her work, but... he's gone now and she doesn't wish to speak ill of him.] He was unable to settle upon one single idea for a story, so he began work on a few short stories. I believe the one he'd been working on around that time was "In the Avu Observatory."

[Oh... bother. She just scrolled up to check and let out a string of curses because Helen was right.] I see. Thank you for letting me know.

Was that his or yours?

[ My, my... ] It occurred to me also several days ago.

It was... [hers] his. He was the genius author. I was merely his "envious younger sibling," jealous of his utter brilliance with the written word.

Oh, did it now? [She's going to go hunt down that post now, just saying.]

Of course. [ Such a tone of disbelief.

[DON'T YOU DARE USE THAT TONE OF VOICE WITH ME, HELEN MAGNUS.] ...What? I've no reason to lie.

[ What tone? ] Despite your memories that I've seen.

It's possible for people to have false memories floating about in their mind based upon what they believe happened rather than what actually has. The truth of a particular memory is difficult to judge.

Perhaps, but I have heard that the community enjoys posting what we would prefer to remain hidden. There's no sense for it to reveal a false memory. [ There's no sense in any of it, she already knows that ]

There's no sense for it to reveal private matters at all, no matter whether or not it's true.

There isn't, no. But the truth is a little easier to detect than you may think. [ Not that she can do that, except intuition... and picking up a few tricks from Sherlock Holmes ]

Well, then. What do you believe is the truth, then? Since, as you say, it's "easy to detect."

Easier. But I believe that more of that memory is true than what you would care to admit. [ She believes in extraordinary women of that time, remember ]

It's quite possible that you're correct.

H.G. Wells. Helena. [ And all those lovely conversations that she'd had with "H.G."... oh darn ] There's a somewhat nicer ring than Herbert.

I like to think so as well. But Charles thought it a brilliant name, so we used it.

I knew him, "Herbert". He was a good man.

He was an idiot. [And she says that with love.]

The "envious sibling", as you put it?

That was both of us, to be honest. He envied my mind, and I was jealous of the fact that he was able to woo the ladies with my own words simply because he possessed a moustache and a specific set of genitalia.

I remember that all too well.

You don't seem to have let that stop you, however.

Of course not. I was able to charm them in other ways and rub it in his face. [Oh, Helen wasn't talking about wooing the ladies, was she... whoops.]
