How do you become someone who is capable of helping others?

I didn't have a real home until recently and they took me in. They take care of me and put up with me when I get in trouble and worry when something happens. I can't do anything to show them how much that means to me. I want to become the kind of person who can help others. Them, and other people who need me.

Well...I suppose if they took you in then a good thing would probably be to help them take care of things, run errands, do chores and things of that nature. That's terribly helpful.
