I had a feeling that it wouldn’t take long for Arago to realize that it was I who replaced Kaosu. The news must have made him furious. Once, again he sent one of my fellow masho to confront me. This time they weren’t successful. I am surprised that he only sent Rajura and not the rest. He tried to bring me down and lost quickly. I was their leader at one point. Rajura tends to rely more on his illusions and tricks then his actual fighting skills… It seems that I almost got through to Rajura, however he seemed hesitant. He seemed to fear the wrath of Arago more than anything… I take that as a sign that they will eventually listen. The masho were always proud and stubborn. It is going to take more time with them. I have hope for them.

However, Lady Kayura concerns me. I do not understand why Kaosu will not let me harm her. The staff refused to move when we fought. Arago’s pride over her puzzles me as well. I had never once known that he had such a formidable woman in our midst. He seems to enjoy flaunting her amongst the masho. I am sure they are not taking her presence very well. What are his plans with her? What is it that Kaosu wants with her? I’m afraid I do not understand any of this. I have tried meditating over this, hoping for an answer for a chance to speak with Kaosu. Unfortunately, I have yet to hear anything from him.

[He wants to comment but this is something Shuten has to learn on his own. He doesn't want to interfere with it.]

[Oh yes. It's so much fun. Sort of like getting slapped in the face repeatedly.]

It seems your world is fraught with politics almost as much as mine. I can sympathize with your difficulties.

Where to begin? I am a Ton, a mid-range "Inquestor" of the ruling class of my galaxy, so the rulers of some thirty planets answer to me. I compete with all others of my rank in games of makrugh for more worlds...but also for trade concessions, alliances, and more. It is customary for a round of makrugh to be played each time Inquestors meet...but more subtle games can be played as well, as knowledge can be used to shift advantage in more formal games.

My whole empire could be in jeopardy, should any other Inquestor find the information leaked to this community. We are trained not to show emotion or weakness, because that could be used by others as an advantage.

The Inquest was began by a woman named Vara when she discovered Uran S'Varek, the planet surrounding the black hole at the center of our galaxy. Legend has it that she was able to connect with the thinkhives that ran the world, and was thus given near unlimited power. She used this power to unite the galaxy under the Inquest and created makrugh as a way to stifle stagnation. Then she laid down the command for the galactic government - Inquestors like myself - to protect humanity from False Utopias while searching the galaxy for a True Utopia to be used as a basis for all society in the galaxy.

Little more of her legend survives, but most scholars agree that the Inquest began some 20,000 years ago. Before then mankind could only travel from planet to planet using the Tacheon paths, and there was no way to tie worlds together.

Who knows? In twenty thousand years of searching we have yet to find one, yet the possibility persists. It would be wrong not to strive for a better world, correct? In my galaxy, that is called the heresy of stagnation - believing that there can be no better, so one must accept imperfections.
