It's obvious if you've been here for a while. And anyway, even if you haven't, why would you eat a weird-looking piece of food that appeared out of nowhere? It could have been, like, poisoned or something.

A fatalistic approach - in other words, they believe whatever is going to happen regardless of the actions they chose to take. Thus, eating the apple is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

Without presupposing the intelligence of the members of this community, I can think of a few reasons.

New members or people who haven't had the same privileges as others to keep up with the community probably wouldn't realize.

There's compulsion.

And in my case, someone prepped a fruit salad for me, so without the 'gold' on it, it looked normal.

I wasn't really talking about the new people. But even they should know better than to eat something so weird-looking.
