9 Ashy Roses

Today in my world is a religious holiday called Ash Wednesday. It marks the start of a 40 day period of self denial in most variations of my faith, some with stricter restrictions than others. What's common is the practice of giving up some personal vice or habit until the 40 days are up -- as long as it's something that will be a challenge for the one who decides on it, it will do. I've decided to let my hair remain its natural color.

[Yes, he does mean the deep red is his real color instead of the blond he was until recently.]

What sort of things would you find easiest and hardest to give up for that long if you had to?

I'd be more impressed with this period of denial if it were longer than forty days.

It's plenty of time for people who can't devote their entire lives to religion, but want to prove that they have the dedication to do what they've sworn to.

So it's a cop out.
