[Video] Screw it it's past 3am here

[The books opens onto the kitchen of a family home. The place is covered with strange magical things not to mention clothes and books and there's an owl hooting the background. Then James comes onto the scene, waving his wand and looking slightly less happy than his usual self.]

Candace! Roxas! Ferb! For the last time, breakfast is ready.

[He rolls his eyes and notices the book open, but really, it's the last thing on his mind because there's suddenly a lot of smoke.] Oh Merlin's--[But the feed cuts off.]

[There's a frustrated call before she appears.]

I'm coming!! Gosh!

[Then she's coughing and waving away the smoke.]

What are you trying to do?

[ Roxas comes running close behind her, having a sixth sense for when James decides to ruin things like breakfast. ]

I don't know, but I think it was supposed to have been breakfast.

[Slightly sleepy eyed Ferb peering around the corner into the kitchen. He...just raises an eyebrow before looking at the stove. At least that thought is appreciated...]

[At least Ferb appreciates him. But by this time, he'd finally managed to get rid of most of the smoke and dish out the charred remains of breakfast.]

Correction, Roxas. It is breakfast. [He's really not had a fun time making this and even if they just humour him, he'd feel a little better. Merlin's beard how did their mother do it?! Placing the four plates on the table, he sat down heavily and started on his own.]

[Candace lets out a loud sigh and gives Roxas a look of understanding before sitting down and trying the meal. She winces but doesn't complain for now.]

[ Roxas shares Candace's look, trying to communicate silently that, as soon as James is out of the room, he's going to go up to that stove and re-do breakfast. Properly this time. Not the easiest thing to communicate in a look, but he's trying.

In the meantime, he sits down and gingerly prods the blackened thing on his plate. ]

If you'd needed help, you could've asked.

[Ferb just looks at the bit of black...stuff on his plate. He looks up at Candace and catches the wince. A frown passes his gaze before he pokes at it.

Roxas you are a life saver.

Mean time Ferb is just going to focus on his juice under the pretense of waiting for the food to cool a bit.]

[James just gives them all a small smile and easily finishes his own blackened breakfast. It doesn't take him long before he's dumping his plate in the sink (he'd wash them later if no one else did) and went upstairs. He knew exactly what the others were going to do and he really didn't want to be there. Merlin, if he really failed at this parenting stuff now, what was he going to do when Harry was born?]

Yes, you couldn't asked.

[Candace echoed then watched with a frown when James left.]

... I guess he's trying.

[ Roxas sighed and got up from the table once James had left, making his way to the larder door. Time to see what was in there he could salvage... ]

I know he's trying, but... I dunno. Maybe someone should tell him it's okay if he can't figure it out by himself right away. [ He pulled open the door and went inside. Maybe there was still some bacon left he could cook... ]

[Ferb just watched James leave before turning to his two other siblings. In their recent virus made memories, Ferb hadn't really spoken much since 'it' happened but now...

He frowned and looked at Roxas.]

...He's trying too hard.

[His gaze drifts to Candace and he silently asks if he should follow their oldest brother upstairs?]

[James had flopped down in his bedroom with a virus made picture. It showed all six of them outside Ollivanders the day Ferb got his wand. It had been a great day out and James remembered it well. Sighing, he rolled over and looked at the ceiling, wishing more than ever that their parents hadn't died.]

[Candace knows that if she goes after James there's bound to be a squabble - at least from her end - so she just gives Ferb a slight nod. Ferb was more reasonable with these matters.]

[Then she goes to help Roxas.]

[ success! there is bacon and eggs! Roxas passes some of it to Candace before emerging himself and hunting for the frying pan. ]

[ as he looks around for the matches - darn being underaged - he sighs. ] He needs to stop being so touchy about it. ... no one learns this stuff overnight.

[As soon as Candace gives the okay, Ferb is off. He can smell the bacon and eggs for a bit before he makes it up the stairs. A small moment to figure out what he's going into before he walks into James' room.

Baby brother's prerogative; no such thing as knocking needed. He waits at the foot of the bed, his gaze wondering a bit before settling on his brother.]

[James is still looking at the ceiling but the green hair and lack of knocking tells him who is standing at the bottom of the bed. Sighing, he replaces the picture on the side and looks up at his brother.]

Hi Ferb. I'm okay. Go down and get a real breakfast, okay?

[Meanwhile. Candace is talking with Roxas.]

He puts a big burden on himself, being the oldest. We should all be more supportive.

He shouldn't have to put such a big burden on himself, though. I mean... you and me are fifteen. It's not like we can't help out.

[Head shake. He's not going anywhere until he figures out just what you are trying, James. He sits on the bed and let's his gaze drift to the picture. He remembers that day too...he looks back at James.

What's really the matter? It's not just burnt meals now is it.]

[James sighed again, knowing exactly what was going through his little brother's head. Then he shrugged.] I guess...I guess I just wish they were still here, you know?

[He's doing his best to be them in their absence but he's not doing a very good job!]

[To Roxas.]

You try telling him that. I'm sure I can make us breakfast sometimes.

[Vanessa raises an eyebrow at the scene playing out.]

Problems?

[It's a moment before James manages to pass the book again, but when he does, he turns the video back on so he can talk and "cook" at the same time.]

Oh hi Vanessa. I'm just trying to make breakfast. [Trying being the operative word here.]

Are you having some breakfast party or something?

Not exactly. It's our first time home since our parents died so I'm trying to...you know...do what they did.

[He's finally managed to make it less smoky, you might see him dishing out some black things onto plates.]

"Our"?

[James just nods, the rest of the family comes into view ~~see above thread~~ and James starts eating.]

Hm. [Yeah, she's aware it's a virus, but this one seems harmless enough.]

That's a nice thing you're doing then, I guess.

Thanks Vanessa. [James calls back, summoning the book so as not to be rude.] You'd understand if you had younger siblings.
