[a lovely park in early summer.  ah, you can almost smell the grass and feel the sun's warmth radiating from the sidewalks and--

feel the pain of a sudden blur colliding head-on with a tree in the foreground.  ow.  the blur, now identifiable as thor since he's no longer speeding along, rolls onto the grass face up.  he lies there spreadeagled until kamina arrives on the scene about four seconds later.  kamina surveys the scene--a banged-up bike, a tree with a huge thor-shaped hole in it, and thor doing nothing about the huge gash in his forehead.

he says,]

(he doesn't quite know what to say or do at the moment. he's laying in the grass, using the newly matured tone:) Your majesty?

[The way Thor addresses him stings like an insult, although coming from Thor he tells himself it must not be. Yet anger rises in him, over so little. A build up of things - of Sif and the warriors three leaving, of things coming unraveled, and now this.]

What are you doing?

[yeah, that would have been smart. kamina stands over thor, blocking out the sun.]

You okay?

Perhaps not. It is rather careless of me to do such a thing as avoid a tree. (he has been acting weird.)

[godofabs]

(there is a sigh. he just needed space to think for a moment, what loki had done and trying to maturely handle it. it is an effort to be selfless, but growth for one as old has he is hard.)

I finally learned to ride the pedal steed.

[he scowls deeply.] Alright, 'fess up. What's eating you?

(thor sits up, trying his best to ignore the fact that he feels like the vain boy that his father accused him of being.)

My father lives.

[he stops, catches himself.]

You seem to be having poor luck.

[the irritation vanishes from his demeanor in a second. no wonder thor shouted sorry to those pedestrians he almost ran over back there. kamina sits next to him and offers up a word of acknowledgement.] Whoa.

(he just slumps, actually looking defeated for a moment.) Loki says he lied to me to spare me or perhaps to spare me the hope of ever being able to return to Asgard. The peace he has fostered between the Frostgiants is a fragile one, my return would spark war.

(he casually glances at Kamina:) Sif says he is in the wrong, yet he is our- her- King. What he does is not out of selfishness, but for the good of Asgard. Yet why, why do I feel betrayed?

Something distracted me, it is not uncommon.

'cause that's bullshit, [he says firmly.] You're brothers, and one wouldn't lie to the other about their pop being dead. No matter what. Family ain't supposed to turn on each other.
