Airbending Lesson 1 [accidental video]

[Hello Republic City Ducks! Anyone who happens to be watching the community right now is in for a rare treat - Avatar Korra trying to Airbend.]

Com'on. Work - WORK!

[The young woman goes through several smooth motions and then thrusts out her hands but nothing happens. She looks at her hands in disgust before throwing her arms to her sides in frustration.]

ARGHHHHHHHHHH! Why can't I Airbend?! What's wrong with me?!

[A rock suddenly lifts from the ground and smashes into a boulder, pulverizing the rock. The woman you have been watching begins to stalk off, muttering various comments on the element of Air and where it can go.]

[Eyes narrow]

You wanna test how well you can fly here, James?

[She's just wanting to practice her Earthbending - nothing more!]

[quidditch_stag]

I don't my broomstick. I'll be right back.

[Out comes the world hopper which he uses to hop back home, gaze at the empty house, grab his broomstick, and return to Korra's side with a slightly sadder smile on his face than when he left.]

Ready!

Huh? HEY!

[She looks around and around and then he's back.]

You need to cut that out! If someone saw you -

[pause, sees broom, realizes what he intends to do with it]

Seriously? A broom? You're going to fly on a broom?

[Only one way to test it. Korra takes a step forward and motions out again with her hands, the movement less fluid and more ridged. The ground under James erupts and launches him into the air.]

Rel--AHHH [The rest of his sentence turned into a scream of confusion and surprise. But, with his reflexes, he managed to mount the broom and soar back down to Korra.]

Well that wasn't very nice, was it? [He stayed on the broom just in case she tried it again.] And yes. I fly on a broom.

[Well, huh - what do ya know? He can fly on a broom.]

You said you could fly.

[shrug]

Do you always have to use the broom?

[HI, JAMES - KORRA IS NOW WALKING ALL AROUND YOU, EXAMINING YOUR BROOMS]

I can fly but yes I have to use a broom. There are some more advanced wizards and witches who don't. And maybe I won't die within the next five years and I'll learn. But for now, I'm stuck with this baby.

[He rubs the handle of the broom lovingly.]

Like her then?

Die? Why would you die? You can't be much older than me.

[She nods with regard to his broom.]

Yeah. Reminds me of the gliders the Airbender kids use.

[SIGH.]

I'm supposed to be learning to bend air so I can fly around like Tenzin can but -

[GRUMP, GRUMP, GRUMP]

ANY WAYS - com'on, let me show you Republic City. OH! We can check out the Pro-Bending Arena. We'll have to be quiet, though.

The bad guy at home wants to kill me to get to my son. Who isn't actually born yet. It's complicated.

[Eyebrow raise] Gliders? I'd like to see those.

[Stop Grumping Korra!]

An Arena? Sounds promising. Lead the way!

So. You already know what the future holds for you? Wow...

[This fact is made a little easier to swallow because Korra has known her destiny since she was four.]

Yeah? Maybe if I can get around to telling Tenzin about you he'll show you them. I can't use one - yet.

[SHE WILL CONTINUE TO GRUMP WHEN IT COMES TO AIRBENDING TYVM]

It's the best! Pro-bending is the best! I'm on a team and we're going to the quarter finals.

[She's still a little bit of a fangirl when it comes to pro-bending.]

We have to be really careful, though. If the guy who runs the place hears us or Mako or Bolin hear us I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do.

Yeah. My Headteacher from school, Professor Dumbledore, was on the community in my future and told me how me and my wife died but our son will save the world. I even met Harry because of the community so it's turned out to be a good thing.

Who's Tenzin? One of this Dark Low kick guys?

[Korra, you're funny.] Don't worry, if we're spotted, I can make us disappear without even moving. [Guess who has his cloak in his pocket?]

Dark Low kick guys? What are those? And, no, Tenzin is my Airbending teacher - Master Tenzin. He's Avatar Aang's son and the last Airbending master in the world - until one of his kids masters the element of Air as well.

[She mulls over what he tells her of his future.]

So not only does this community connect different 'worlds' but different times?

[Explains Azula...]

Don't do that! We can't just disappear! Everyone in Republic City knows who I am so if I'm there one second and gone the the next they are going to question Tenzin and then there's that whole mess I gotta deal with. Just - keep quiet and act like you belong. If anyone spots us I'll talk, okay?

[Ugh, this is worse than babysitting for Tenzin and Pema.]

You know. When you made me eat bush when I turned up! [He means White Lotus. Sorry Korra.] Oh right. I see.

[James nods.] The strangest thing was when Professor Dumbledore died, he still came back to the community only he was a lot younger and had no memories of it. Well, that's the strangest thing that's not virus related anyway. [He laughed.]

We'll reappear after they've gone! [Eyeroll] Whatever you say.

Virus? Wait - back from the dead but younger?

[STARES]

This community seems like it should be a connection to the Spirit World or something.

That's not the point! The point is they'll see me one moment and then the next they won't! Tenzin is on the Council - he has to answer to the representatives from the other bending nations and tribes that comprise the city. Me disappearing from sight will definitely make headlines.

[Eyeroll right back at ya, buddy]

Any ways, we need to just get up the wall.

[She points up the tall walls which surround the arena.]

Now, I can bend water and get us up and inside but you wanna give you trick a try? I don't mind water but you might.

Viruses come and go. You'll meet one sooner or later, if you stick around. [James nodded.] Yup. I wonder if that'll happen to me if I do die. Though, I'll be a lot younger. [Strange how a man so young can be very calm about the subject of his own death.]

Okay! You're welcome to bend water but I'll fly up. Thanks.

[And with a wink, he pushes off and up!]
