[The feed snaps on as Rei's phone goes flying, clattering to the ground before it skids, finally coming to a stop to lean against some machinery in an abandoned factory. Our resident Makai Knight is currently clashing swords with someone who looks to have stepped out from Japan's past, and the two are pretty evenly matched. Even more surprising is the fact that the other man has one of Rei's swords and is dual-wielding it alongside his katana. (remember: Makai Knight swords are made out of Soul Metal, and it's nearly impossible for a normal person to wield without years of training.)]

You're a fool!

[Rei screams as they continue their dance of steel, keeping mostly in a deadlock as they move around the pipelines and other machinery.]

Why must we fight?! You should've been a Makai Knight!

[To have Rei admit the fact that this man had the will and spirit to protect was probably the highest form of compliment he could've ever given an opponent, which made it all the worse knowing that this man willingly became a Horror in order to fight him unrestrained.]

I'm not interested in that! I'm a Horror, so you have to fight me, that's all!

[The ronin kicks Rei away from him, finally breaking their lock and stepping forward to try and strike him, while Rei kicks his sword out of his opponent's hand, deflecting a blow from the katana with his sword arm. The two then fly into the air again, until Rei goes flying from another blow, this time sending him crashing to the ground.]

It's time we finished this.

[Rei scrambles to his feet, his usual grin seeming out of place before he replies:] I understand. I will cut you away. [It's then that his expression looks more serious, determined, and he raises his swords skyward to draw two circles in the air, which intersect and create a portal of light, and as he lowers his arms, his armor appears.

Juuzou smiles, now satisfied that he is able to fight Rei at his full power.]

Now let's duel!

[He folds down the top half of his outfit before transforming into a grotesque creature, still gripping the katana and settling into his stance while Rei does the same with both swords.]

(canon move to Makai Senki episode 8! Juuzou Igari, the man that Rei fought, is in italics, and Rei will reply after everything's over.)

[it's obviously something personal so she doesn't speak up, only intently watch. she doesn't even expect him to respond if she did, anyways.]

[It's not until after Juuzou finally disappears that Rei notices that there's a notification from the community in the first place, having picked up his phone in a hurry to get out of there before any civilians decided to poke their heads in. He's also gripping something in his other hand.]

... dare I ask how much of that was seen?

[His tone's flippant as per usual, but at the same time, there's an undeniable hint of something else in there. A mix of emotions from that fight and his own realizations about what time he has left.]

Enough to know it was something personal.

It didn't have to be.

[Though that part was more to himself, Rei lets out a tired sigh.]

Idiot - he could've done so much.

I'm sorry.

Don't need to apologize, it's just -

[He gives a bit of a halfhearted smirk.]

Guess I saw a lot of myself in him. First I just thought he was some crazy man that watched too many samurai movies, then I find out he actually was one and just wanted to fight strong opponents.

Were you close to him?

Funny thing about that - we'd only just met the other night.

But through fighting him, it seemed like I'd known him for a good part of my life.

... I think I can understand that.

Not a feeling I'd normally be getting about someone who was technically an enemy.

He seems a little different.

That's a bit of an understatement.

What happened to him?

He died. Apparently he was satisfied knowing he died fighting a strong swordsman that he let himself pass on. Not like he could've lived an ordinary life anyway - he was out of his time.

That's...not at all usual for a Horror, is it?

No. I'm not even sure how this all started in the first place, considering that Silva couldn't detect any trace of a Horror on him until that last fight. I'll probably be looking into it myself once I get some rest.

considering it's the hardest fight I've had in a while, yeah. Definitely agree there.

[ that's enough to make sure she's going to go his world. she knows his armor doesn't last all that long- so what if the time on that runs out and he's still fighting? she can only think she'll make it in time.

she doesn't want to be in her world now, anyways. ]

[By the time DM gets there, Rei's kneeling, gripping something in one hand that surprisingly doesn't look like one of his swords. He's tired, exhausted by both the fight and a brief attack from the Seal of Destruction, and it shows in the circles under his eyes and the sheen of sweat on his face before he finally stands to face her.]

Long time no see. [He manages a small smile, at least.]

[ She came here expecting- no, wanting a fight. Guess not. But seeing him as he is now, she relents as concern washes across her face. ] You have won the fight...but that man,
and the Seal-[ She walks closer, eventually kneeling beside him. ] Tell me whathas happened.[ She knows that he shouldn't even be talking now but resting. Still, she has to know. ]

Juuzou. His name was Igari Juuzou.

[He glances back to the wakizashi in his hand before turning his gaze to her.]

All I know is that he was looking for strong swordsmen to fight after seeing a Makai Knight in his childhood, thought if he'd ever meet one, he'd finally be strong enough to fight them.

[It still was a bit confusing, especially considering all of it happened within the span of about a day with the initial meeting and duel to tonight.]

Somehow he ended up keeping his soul intact after a Horror possessed him between the first time I saw him and earlier, and ... we dueled. I won.

[Though he doesn't look too pleased at the fact.]

He acknowledged my strength ... and gave me this. [He lifts the sheathed wakizashi, frowning a bit.]

[ She glances at the item indicated. ] A memeto, a trophy...or a legacy?

But how is it possible

he kept himself from beingcompletely corrupted bya Horror?

I don't know - on either count. My only guess on how he wasn't completely corrupted was the fact that his will to fight was strong enough to let him stay in control until I struck him down.

As far as I know,that is the first timethis has happened- having enough will to retain some thought,

and enough to know what he had

become, but not enoughto stop himself fromfighting. [ she drifts off from that. there's something there that strikes her as familiar. ]

Hasn't happened at all to my knowledge, either. If anything ... it showed to me more than anything else that he had the will to become a Makai Knight.

[Rei gives her a bit of a grin at that.]

Suppose there's no harm in it. And I doubt you'd take "no" for an answer anyway.

[ a reciprocated smile. ] You are learning,
Rei Suzumura.[ but it's more than that- she knows he's been through a lot. although she's not sure she can even help out with his duties, she can at least offer some protection. of course- ] But knowing you, I believe you shall make

a quick recovery.

Wouldn't be much of a Knight if I wasn't used to bouncing back quickly. I'm just more curious about finding out more about who exactly this guy was and what he was doing. The fact that he was talking about finding strong people to sword fight and his clothes pretty much seal the fact he might not even be from this time.

[ she tilts her head ] A sort of traveler across time?

Or an immortal?

[ a pause. ] Is either abilityfound within Horrors or without them?

I'd put my money more on the former. Never heard of a Horror ability doing something like that, though. They can live for long periods of time ... might have something to do with it.

I'll have to look up a few things when we get back.

I should hopethere would be a way to confirm

either statement.

[ she offers a clawed hand to help him up. ] Well, then.

Pretty sure I can find something on it in the old archives.

[And with a sigh, he takes her hand and stands, brushing himself off.]

Thankfully dawn's breaking - shouldn't have to worry about much until night falls again.

Probably, until I either die or end up getting an apprentice.

[He shrugs, though there is a small hint of hesitation.]

Either one's a possibility.

[ she stops for a moment, frowning. ] You are doomedto this duty.

You act as if didn't have a choice in this lifestyle.

Of course I did. I always had the choice. There was a time when I didn't want to, but that was because I was too intent on killing the man responsible for taking my family away from me.

Now, though ... I want to keep going. I'm willing to take on the burdens of this job - if I wasn't, I would've walked away a long time ago.
