To do:

1. Order one hundred yards of pink ribbon, three boxes of feathers, at least one bundle of lace.

2. Make sure Lettie and Martha clean their room before Friday.

3. Ask Fanny about the budget this week.

4. Visit the book shop?

[You can hear her scribbling out the fourth item and sighing heavily.]

No. Not today I think.

[Other voices can be heard, though they are faint. Perhaps calling from another room.]

Oh Sophie! Come look! Howl's Castle is coming into view!

Here to steal another heart perhaps? [Sophie is muttering as her footsteps echo off into the distance.]

Someone else mentioned that. What do you mean?

It connects up people from different worlds somehow. For some people it somehow ends up on their computer, for other people it's a book. No one's really sure if it's technology or magic that does it, though, but it seems to pick people at random.

No. I'm from a whole different world to you.

I didn't know something like that was possible.

Don't worry about it. Most people don't until they find the community.

But surely someone here must know about it. Wizards or witches...

I can understand why they wouldn't talk about it if they did know.

Well... you know actually, they might. In my group of worlds, the people who know about it aren't supposed to tell anyone who doesn't, in case it upsets the balance of things.

They'd probably have a fit if they knew about this place.

It does seem like an awfully powerful thing.

It can be. It does a lot of reality-altering stuff.

How do you mean?

[seasaltzombie]

Oh, you know... it does stuff like transport people from one place to another, or turn them into animals for a few days, or mess with their memories for a day or two. We tend to call stuff like that viruses. They're temporary, but it's still annoying.

And there is nothing that can be done about them?

[seasaltzombie]

Not that I've heard. There's someone who's studying them to see if she can find out more, but that's about all I know.

Is that Miss Foster by chance? I've been told to seek her out for answers.

I think that's her name. She'll probably have the most detailed information about it all, anyway.
