[They're not really magic, but John's feeling rather tipsy right now so...

And because of that he peers closely at Cosmo.]

"And you're green, and short..."

So you're not an anti-fairy...?

"Anti-fairy? Of course not! You 21st century-ians and your little categories. It's all in good fun." [Hopefully that'll go right over Cosmo's head.]

"I take it you are a fairy?"

"Well, you've got the fashion statement," [John gestures at Cosmos's green hair.

He leans forward squinting.] "Am I totally off my face, or are you... floating?"

[His hand goes to his hair with a look of confusion.]

I have fashion in my hair?

[Pause]

Your face looks like it's still there...

"The green! It's all...Mardi Gras like, you know...gives a real party atmosphere."

[He giggles at Cosmo's remark about his face.] "Well, that's a relief, I quite like my face."

It's always been green....

But we can still have a party! Yay!

"Really?" [John's seen a lot of things here in the 21st century, but someone born with green hair hasn't been among them.

But then...maybe the fellow is a bit drunk too?]

"I like your style! Do you karaoke?"

[And he does a kick in mid-air. Yep, he got that confused with karate....]

[Captain John bursts out laughing.]

"Unless you're doing Kung-Fu Fighting I think you might have the wrong idea."

"Karaoke's singing! You know..." [And the good Captain will do a little demonstration of Everybody Was Ku-Fu Fighting for Cosmo's benefit. And because it's fun!]

Do you always sing about Kung-Fu?

"Of course not! I sing anything and everything!" [Actually it's mostly 80s songs, but there's a few other's in his repotiore.]

"How about something from ABBA? You know them surely?"

Flying cars.

[Captain John gives a laugh.]

"Much too cliched. Plus it'd be hover cars, flying cars are pretty much planes."

Yeah, but we have planes already.

"Exactly! So why the need for flying cars, hover cars are a much better idea. Don't have to bother with flying licenses that way."

[Not that Captain John ever bothers with licenses anyway, but the point remains for those law abiding folk.]

"Because hover cars only go about a foot off the ground, hardly need to worry about weather reports at that height."

"Ooo, quite right!" [John is pleased that someone has given a right guess.]

"If you do win the prize what do you think of karaoke?"

"Well I wouldn't be so selective myself...But I extend the hand of friendship for the purposes of karaoke if need be. I'm sure you have a lovely singing voice."

[She brushes a strand of hair behind her shoulder.]

Of course. I have a beautiful voice.

[Captain John leans in, his curiosity piqued.] "Oh? Care to demonstrate?"

[She looks surprised for a second before she looks away, a blush coming to her cheeks. She hadn't expected him to ask.]

F-feel grateful that I'm going to l-let you!

[And she begins to sing, her voice soft and sweet instead of powerful.]

I have enough trouble trying to imagine that century.

[Roze! Long time no see! John gives a cheery wave.]

"Are you not from the 21st century?" [Colour him surprised!]

[She waves back, shooting him a fond smile.]

No, I'm from the early 20th.

[hart_on_sleeve]

"Well obviously I should spend time looking at your clothes rather than your pretty face."

[The Captain is clearly in his most charming mood today.]

"But have a guess anyway! You'd be surprised."

[She laughs lightly. Charming he is.]

Small computers with big screens?

[That's what she's heard.]

"Small computers with holographic screens," {John specifies.] "But that's pretty close! What prize would you like?"

Oh! I remember those!

I don't need anything, it's fun learning about the future.

[Aww Rose, you're too nice, that should have tipped John off that she wasn't from the 21st century. 21st centuryians are so rude.]

"The pleasures all mine, good Rose! How about some karaoke? That's always good fun."

"Of course its fair! It'd be much more unfair if I let people from beyond that century guess. After all technology really took off in the 22nd century, they'd have an unfair advantage."

"But you can have a go if you want."

[That flirtatious smile reminds him of someone. But who? If he could just put his finger on it...]

Oh well asking me about the future is cheating in any context. Of course then I'd have to ask you to be more specific... which planet are we talking about? What year are you using as the benchmark for "future"? Twenty-first century, I'd assume, otherwise you wouldn't be excluding those from past it. However even then it leads me to wonder how far in the future you'd like people to look. Ten years? Ten million?

[He shakes his head, running a hand through his hair and sighing]

It really is a poorly worded question once you really think about it, isn't it?

[As this fine fellow keeps talking, John is steadily more and more intrigued!]

"You certainly get around don't you? What's your secret?"

[He gives a slight pout.] "Well, it's rather well known that I'm from the 51st century-" [At least John thinks so, he's a legend in his own mind-] "so I was talking about that."

My secret? Oh a little of this, a little of that. If I told you it wouldn't be a secret, now, would it?

[his eyebrows shoot up.] 51st century? You don't say. I know someone else from that century, as well.... Well I know a lot of someones from that century but one in particular who also had an interest in the 20th and 21st centuries.

[Something rather odd will happen, Captain John will actually fall silent for a moment.]

"Have you now? He wouldn't go by the name Captain Jack Harkness would he?"
