[ the video starts and you see Finn dressed in coveralls, working in Burt's tire shop. The hood of a car is up and he's tinkering with something inside it, until a woman - his mom - walks over holding a brown paper bag ]

Finn, I brought you lunch.

[ he straightens up, turning to her with a smile ] Oh, thanks. [ he ducks his head so she can stretch up and kiss him on the cheek, then tells her to leave the bag on the side near his toolkit. As he cleans the oil from his hands, she tells him that she and Burt won't be home for dinner since Burt has a meeting to discuss his campaign plans ]

But you're okay to close up the shop by yourself, right?

Sure, it's fine.

You are a good boy. It's so great that Burt can rely on you to hold down the fort here while he's busy. I'm so proud of you, sweetie.

[ Finn tries to return her smile, but it definitely looks a little forced. As Carole wanders over to talk to one of the other workers, some music starts playing (who knows how) and Finn starts to sing, watching her with a sad expression ]

Told you I was joining the army, had no excuse
Seemed the right thing to do.

Said I'd come back mean and cruel.
I said I just wanted to make my father proud
Even though he's not around.
Been gone since I was a baby.
I'm still worried what he'd think about me.

Playing the drums just ain't gonna cut it for long.

To me it all seems fair.

[ and just like that the strange musical quality of the video stops. Carole waves to Finn, giving no indication that she heard the song, and leaves.

With a small sigh, Finn grabs his lunch and heads to the back office so he can eat ]

[Sam nodded at what Finn was saying.] Music's good like that. Puts your feelings into words for you when you can't.

Yeah, it really is. Which is good, since I never was all that good with words.

So, um. What did you think? [ he knew he shouldn't be so desperate for reassurance, but after what happened last time he told people this was what he wanted to do, he was hoping it would go better this time ]

Me neither. [Which is why he likes to steal other people's words by doing impressions!]

I think... maybe there are other ways to make your dad proud? But if you're really serious about joining the army you should go for it. I can help you train for boot camp. Only thing is I heard it's hard to quit though once you're in... Not that I think you're a quitter. It's just that if you end up not liking it I don't think they consider that a legit enough excuse to leave.

I just wanna prove I'm good for something, you know? Prove that the Hudsons are good for something. I still have to clear his name. [ he shrugs one shoulder, a casual gesture to try and play down what a big deal this actually was ] But I'd appreciate it if you'd help me train. Since school finished and I haven't had football practice, I'm not in the best shape anymore.

[ Finn snorted and threw a rag at Sam's face ] Or not. [ he was pretty sure he'd just end up laughing if Sam tried to order him around like that ]

[ Finn tilted his head to look at Sam's hair, trying to picture him with the short back-and-sides ] Nah, I'm too used to seeing you with longer hair. The army style would look weird.

[ he lifted a hand to his own hair; nowadays he kept it shorter than it used to be, but still long enough to style a bit. But not for much longer, probably ] Yeah? You think it'd look okay?

My mom would probably kill my if I cut it shorter than this.

I think it'd look cool... not that you should base your decision on a haircut.

Yeah, my mom always says she likes mine longer, too.

[ he laughs ] Even I'm not that dumb. But to be honest...I think I've already made my decision.

[Sam wants to say he'll miss him, but he doesn't want Finn to make fun of him for being mushy.] I wonder if your mom will give me your room. [He says instead with a grin.]
