Brilliant! Been looking for an internet connection for ages, couldn't get anywhere but the data files…

[And now her voice is excited, and a little bit rushed. She hasn't properly talked to anyone in a very long time.]

Hello! Is there anyone there?

Don’t suppose any of you’ve been traveling in space, have you? None of my signals’ve been picked up, thought I might get somewhere on here.

Anyway. Introductions. I’m Oswin. Oswin Oswald, Junior Entertainment Manger on the Starship Alaska. I’m afraid I’m a bit stuck where I am at the moment, anyone care to offer some help?

The Starship Alaska, you say? Can't say I've heard of it. Of course that's not especially unusual since I'm certain there are more starships in the universe than I've had the pleasure of visiting or otherwise meeting the acquaintance of.

Speaking of acquaintances! I'm the Doctor!

Probably best that you didn't visit this one, crashed just a day out of port. I'm the only survivor, far as I know.

Doctor? Just that? Bit of an odd name, isn't it? [Says the girl called Oswin Oswald, of all things.]

[Instant concern is GO.]

The only survivor? That's a bit grim. Have you sent out a distress beacon?

[Sorry, too preoccupied with your current predicament to worry about his name]

[Her tone quietens just a bit.]

Yeah. Been sending them out for a year, but no one's picked them up. Figured I'd have more luck on here.

A year?! [He's flicking switches and spinning dials on his end. Oh that is not good. That is very very extremely not good.]

Do you have any idea where you are?

Can't say exactly. Ship crash-landed somewhere on this planet...I think I'm somewhere underground.

...you coming to get me?

[He frowns. For whatever reason the TARDIS isn't able to lock onto the signal. ~~lol timelines~~]

I will the moment I'm able to find you.

[~~Curse those pesky timelines~~. Disappointment is evident in her voice.]

Right. 'Course. Well...guess I'll be here, won't I?

[Whoops. Nope. Can't have disappointed voices. No, no, that won't do at all. He grins]

Well at least you're not alone any longer. Welcome to Drama Drama Duck. Don't ask me, I didn't name it and I have no clue whatsoever what it's got to do with ducks. It's a sentient internet community that connects itself to people from different times and locations throughout the universe.

Oh, too bad. I was hoping for an actual internet connection, this must be the community connecting to me.

Ah well. Can't say it isn't interesting enough here, for what I've seen. [She's inwardly thrilled at the prospect of talking to people again, even if it's not in person.]

Sentient, though. That's new.

Although with the amount of people you'll be speaking with you may as well have full connectivity. If you need to know anything all you've got to do is ask.

speaking of asking... here's a question for you: Why are you only using voice, why can't I see you?

[There's a brief pause on Oswin's end, probably long enough for the Doctor to realize that something's up.]

Didn't see an option for video. Could be this thing can't support it.

Not very talkative, are you, dear?

[He stops for a second and tries to decide what to talk about.]

By space, do you mean you're in the sky? How can you do that? Are you a demon, too?

Sort of. It's beyond the sky, really. Out in the stars. [There's a wistful tone behind those last phrases.]

Demon? No...can't say I am. Just a girl with a computer screen and not much else to do.

How do you go into the stars...it's so far away...

I can help. Maybe. [Probably not but he's trying!] Space. That's where the Doctor is right?

[Excuse the little boy who looks the size of a mouse. It's just the world he's on, really.]

Think so, yeah. Whatever he's in can't get to me.

You're a bit small to be rescuing anyone, don't you think? [Only teasing, of course, but his size is a bit strange. Not the weirdest thing she's seen, though.]

[He smiled and gave her a small wave as he spoke. And of course he wasn't just being polite; alliteration and unusual names weren't exactly anything new.]

You can just call me Diarmuid. As for help..if you're on a starship, I fear my own assistance is very limited.

Well, not really on a starship, more like stuck in one that crashed. Might be a bit of a chore to get out here either way, though, if you've no way to do it.

Oswin Oswald? That's an interesting name.

[He taps his temple as he says the words. Afterwards, he has a slightly discomforted look on his face.]

That's gonna take getting used to... never really been one to talk to anybody 'cept face to face. Anyway, maybe I can help... I need to go visit some other worlds anyway, and I can probably get there fastest... assuming you know which world you're on and roughly where you crash landed?

[Feel free to call him out on the fact that he is clearly not in space.]

Hm. Don't think I'll have much trouble memorizing you. That's some hair you've got.

[Come on, Oswin, haven't you ever seen a Square Enix character before?]

Sorry. Limited power, can't really get the video to work. [Actually, about that...] Voice and text seem to work just fine, though.

I could send out a signal if you can pick one up.

[He hesitated, then shrugged a bit and lifted a finger.] Wait one second, I need to check something. [He walks offscreen; for about two minutes there's silence, then he returns with a white haired man in a lab coat.]

So, is there any way for this to pick up a signal from another world?

That would depend on the kind of signal you're talking about.

A radio signal, or something like it.

No, it was never designed to do that. It can pick up signals from worlds with particularly high amounts of Heartless or particularly strong Hearts, but it doesn't get much in terms of radio signal outside of what any other computer would.

Oh... I see. Guess that option's out. Thanks anyway.

Of course. How's your search going?

Oddly. I'm finding a lot of things I didn't expect to find, but not much that I can actively use yet. I'm starting to figure it out, though.

Damn... If I don't know where you are, there isn't much I can do. I wouldn't even know which world to start looking on, and it isn't exactly efficient to start searching world by world. There isn't anything you can do to figure out where you are by any chance, is there? A scan or... something?

I think you've already talked to the Doctor, and he's the one driving. Except when the TARDIS sort of...drives itself. But I'm sure he's working on getting us there already.
