Hey. I know I don't normally ask for help, but... this is a little bit of a special case. A few of you have met... oh, where's... there. lil_tanuki, Hayate Yagami. Little brown-haired girl. She's in a wheelchair because her legs are paralyzed... and it's getting worse. Without some kind of intervention, she's not going to last a whole lot longer. Six months, maybe a year. I don't think anyone has the kind of medical capability or healing magic she needs, either.

[There's a long pause; she looks a little off-balance. She told herself she wouldn't cry...]

Anyway... Hayate's birthday is coming up. I know it's a weird thing to ask, but... I want to make it a good one. Because she might not get another one. But I don't know anything about parties, or any of that stuff.

[Rita's face is pleading.] Can... can anyone help me?

I'm not very happy with it either, but that's the analysis. That's why I'm doing all this. I feel horrible that there's nothing more I can do to help.

I appreciate that. I don't know how to accommodate a ten-year-old, not really. Let alone like Hayate.

I... I'll do the best I can to help out. I don't know how to really cook, but I have a friend who could make her some nice gifts to enjoy...

That would be great. I've got a few people that can cook, but nobody I can really ask to to a whole lot else. I think she'd appreciate something she can hold on to after the party's over.

It's okay, really. This isn't something most people deal with on a regular basis. It's still a problem, though. One I'm disheartened magic doesn't seem to be able to solve.

I know... but, it feels... so bad, especially since I'm a hero and well... aren't heroes supposed to save people?

Even heroes aren't perfect. I want to help her too, badly, but... I'm not what she needs right now. She needs a miracle. Failing that... she needs us to let her know she's not alone. It's why she latches on to us so quickly; she has nobody else. I remember that feeling, and kit kills me a little every time I see her.

Don't apologize. My failures are not your fault, and though I would be forever grateful to anyone that can help Hayate, I don't blame anyone. Especially not anyone that's being a positive influence on her.
