We don't, here. If I need to talk to someone, either I write a letter and find a courier I trust, or I go myself. Usually the second, since the courier will probably want a king's ransom to deliver the message.

I guess situations like that make people more focused on their immediate community. That's not a bad thing.

It's a royal pain when we have to talk to the capital about something, though - I work in an imperial research lab that's half a continent away. If they want to give me new orders, either they have to send a knight to relay them, or I have to go to the capital, which isn't exactly a short journey.

I usually just use a regular phone. I haven't been able to afford a cell phone yet.. Are they really that amazing?

I think they're really useful! I travel a lot for work, after all, so it's a good way for me to stay in touch and be easily reachable.

My family have all been sticking to regular phones, though. They don't see that much use in cell phones. [And they are slightly technologically backwards.]

I think I'd like to get a cell phone eventually, but I can understand wanting to use a regular phone. I see people with cell phones sometimes and they don't pay attention to anything around them.. I can't imagine doing that.

The people I work with and I travel a lot. Of course I still want to be able to talk with them about work.

People always do such difficult stuff. There's always plenty of work to do near where they live, yet they gotta go and move all around..

Something like that is nice, but not very practical across distances spanning worlds like I'm used to. Communicating requires magic that's beyond my level, though the community managed to establish a link to a charm I made.

You travel between worlds often?

Very often. Part of the problem is I'm supposed to keep secretive about other worlds existing, since there are many worlds that don't know they're not alone. So if I need to talk to a friend there or help with a problem, I have to check in fairly regularly. And that's difficult to manage.

Are those widely available?

Yes. ÄRM as simple as these ones, that can only transmit voices, aren't too expensive, and they're easily acquired... but most people don't have a use for them. They're more common among armies and guilds; mine allows me to communicate with the Cross Guard.

The people of MÄR keep to themselves, mostly. An adventurous person is probably more likely to have Andarta, for teleportation, which eliminates the need for communication ÄRM.
