I've seen what people look like when they know the truth. It might be selfish but I don't want the people I care about to stop being able to smile over a skinned knee or dirt in my hair. That's not possible if I don't lie because I know that they care about me.

That kind of endless violence you're talking about though.. isn't that more reason to need someone to connect to?

I know it can be difficult too since I'm sure that the people who don't know probably feel left out or hurt that they aren't trusted.. but it isn't always a matter of trust, so it becomes complicated.

I haven't, really, but... someone I know did it to me once. I've forgiven him in the end, but at the time... I was pretty mad. I mean, I still ended up worrying, I just didn't know what it was I was worrying about, you know? And I still wonder sometimes if maybe things might've been different if he'd just been honest from the start.

[ not that it helps that a lot of his memories of that time are really hazy for some reason, but still... ]

Would you be happier if your worries were over your friend was going out and getting hurt just from doing regular stupid teenager activities or something where being five minutes late might raise questions about whether that friend was still alive? There'll still be worry but.. I'd rather the worry be about something lesser. It's not just a secret so much as actual lies...

Sort of the case. I started thinking about it because I encountered someone who lied to someone for a very long time, then ran away so he didn't have to face her. It was too late by the time he found her letter that forgave him.

It is, but.. I think a great weight was lifted off of him when he found out that she wasn't mad, even if it took him a really long time.
