Dear community,

I hope you are all well. We are about to travel again, this time to visit the augur who lives in a town not far from where we are. In this world, there are truly people who can divine the future or see beyond normal senses. Back in my own world, there were people who claimed they could do such things, but you never knew if they really could.

It's made me wonder- are prophecies and oracles common in your worlds, or do most people think of them as tricks? I think knowing that certain things will happen changes a lot of things.

Prophecies exist though they're usually not something you want to be mentioned it, like the prophecy of a banshee.

Yes. Particular banshees tend to attach themselves to families and when their tears fall, it indicates that a member of the family will die. Since their tears are peculiar, you can usually burn them to try to dispel the prophecy, but if they won't burn then it's fairly unavoidable.

It is. Most families who have a banshee attached to them are prone to believing them because of their accuracy and banshee are a type of fairy that is more easily seen by humans as they look like humans, as well, so the prophecies of a banshee are taken seriously even by some who wouldn't otherwise believe in fairies.

I guess it's better than having no warning, and at least there's something that people can try to do.

They are common enough...though I do not know as to accurate they really are.

[She will not admit it, but she believes in them. Even the absurd ones. A bad fortune could leave her depressed for weeks on end. As a result, she dislikes having her fortune told, just in case she gets something bad.]

And is there any reason you would seek predictions of the future?

They could be useful, but I'm more interested in finding out things about the present that I couldn't otherwise. There are people I need to find.
