Dear Book People,

I think...I think I might actually be able to escape the Library!

Its taken five weeks of my time, but after that terrible Madam left the Watchers did as I asked and put up a sign for me. With any luck, within a few day someone will send me out the doors and into freedom!

Of course I'll take this book with me, as well as mine and Mr. Grassi's.

But I'm not sure what else I'll need. I have no idea what the city might be like.

Have you ever been out into a city on your own?

Cash. You're gonna need cash, just about anywhere you go. That's the case for any kinda city.

I can't remember. But I think its time to leave.

You're right. But I haven't seen any money in the Library; they certainly have never paid me, and I've seen none of the other assistants with any money either.

Start pocketing the late fees before you go, telling people they're higher than they are. Somethin's better than nothing.

Good. Just be careful--it's impossible to tell how your city will be, since each one's different, but if you look too much like you're lost, you might attract unwanted attention.

If you don't have any money, you might want to take something you can sell. Get enough to live off of until you can find a job somewhere.

Congratulations, though I ask that you be careful. It would be dangerous, going outside after so long.

I don't know the circumstances, but I wish you luck. Be sure to keep a tight hand on your valuables, and don't trust deals that sound too good to be true: they are. If you are in trouble, a church will help more than a city guard in most cases.

Assuming your city cleaves to the common mold, that is the best advice I can think of quickly.

You really should try to do some research first.

I think the books are the only valuable things I have access to. Nothing else in the library is worth much.

But I'll remember the bit about the church.

Well...not many people can get into the Library either. I don't think I've ever even heard of a late fee being issued.

I'll try to look confident, even if I'm scared. I wouldn't want them to take me back!

I hope there are jobs available...but there must be in a city, right?

I know. And I'm a bit frightened. But staying inside forever is dangerous too.

I wish I could. But no one can talk to me and the books aren't being much help.

Usually. Start out small, though--food service doesn't pay much, but you don't need a whole lot of experience or training, and it'll be enough to get you started.

I'm from a dream-world. Which is why I'm having so much difficulty escaping the library. From what I understand, in normal worlds there is nothing preventing you from walking out the doors but here...there are all kinds of Rules about that sort of thing.

Ah, you should go out. [That much wasn't in question.] Though it seems as if you've gotten more brave, since we've met. The idea would have been too much, before.

I don't think I'm more brave. Just...tired. Tired of being ignored and pushed aside. And tired of being scared. Maybe the world outside is just as bad as inside, but at least I won't be invisible.

Even if you've changed , you've gotten no more confidence. No matter, if you're willing to go outside.

I was beginning to wonder what was going on with you. Do you know what the city's called?

Okay. If you need anything, I don't know how a worldhop will work outside your library, but it's worth a try, at least.

I think it is just The City. Like the Library is just The Library.

I just hope this isn't a bad idea...
