I'll try to put it simpler terms without exposing too much. There is a place I must be and a thing I must guard for my entire life. Nothing else can come before them. They must always be the most important things to me. Knowing people, making friends...they would become more important. I can't have that.

No. They have more important things in their life. They have families, friends, their own goals to uphold.At some point, they would choose something else over the Emer - over the duty. ~~I don't want them trapped like me.~~
