I found this oddly relative to a predicament I was in awhile ago.

Well, since I haven't asked any questions this week I might as well try now. I think I'm going to go with riddles this time. Riddles are generally fun to work out at least.

I'll start with a riddle, and give you more if you get them right.

"A man was to be sentenced, and the judge told him, "You may make a statement. If it is true, I'll sentence you to four years in prison. If it is false, I'll sentence you to six years in prison." After the man made his statement, the judge decided to let him go free. What did the man say?"

No cheating.

"I will spend six years in prison."

It is a simple form of puzzle..

What the hell kind of judge sentences someone and then just lets them go?

Why would he leave it up to the criminal, then? He should have just executed him or something.

"My what pretty eyes you have, Your Honor."?

oceanicbutterfly: (thoughtful)

"This statement is false," perhaps?
oceanicbutterfly: (hmm)

[personal profile] oceanicbutterfly 2008-10-10 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... something that couldn't be determined true or false, like a statement about the future, maybe?

philoxidizes: (are you pondering what I'm pondering?)

[personal profile] philoxidizes 2008-10-10 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd answer, but it seems quite a few people have already beat me to it.
philoxidizes: (oops lol)

[personal profile] philoxidizes 2008-10-10 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be much obliged.

I never did quite understand the basis behind this one. Not that I'm unfamiliar with the answer.

What kind of judge would even decide things in that manner?
