I'm leaving home today. Most of my stuff is already at the apartment but, this is different. I'm not going to be coming back here very often. I want to say I'm worried about leaving my aunt here alone but, the truth is I think she'll handle it better than me. She's a pretty tough lady.

That just leaves me. I wonder if I can handle being everything that I need to be full time. [There's some silence before he sounds sheepish.]

Sorry that's kind of heavy and I don't even have a question for you guys. Uh.... let me think... oh. I think I got a good one.

What do you think makes a hero?

A hero... It's a complicated term, isn't it? I have a bad history with it, but I'll try to answer succinctly.

A hero is someone who shoulders burdens upon himself for the sake of others. Who saves the people that he can see.

I have a friend who is dedicated to becoming a hero. He's too selfless... it made me worry over him.

I've met his future self. Pursuing that idea of saving everyone - that ruined him.

A truly selfless man.

That is to say, he doesn't exist.

Dedication to doing what's right no matter what.

That's a strangely relevant question...

What are you talking about 'full time'?
messiahed: (❛ if only you and me ❜)

[personal profile] messiahed 2011-06-14 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh right. That college thing you people do.

What do you even learn at college anyway?

You can still visit though, right? [He knows all about the hardships of leaving home )8]

Um, right. A hero. What was that comic book quote? Heroes aren't born, they're made? It's not really what you have to work with, but what you do with it, I guess.

But sometimes even heroes have to do bad things. [Or so he keeps justifying to himself. He looks away before smiling sheepishly back up at Peter.] Sorry, I think I just added to the heaviness.

That's good. I can't really visit my mom after-- anyway, it's definitely a good thing.

Choices are...important. I know it sounds simple, but even really simple choices get more complicated when you make them. Something like that anyway.

And I think a lot of people like to talk about heavy things here. It's easier with strangers. That whole, online anonymity thing.

A hero is someone who is selfless. Someone when faced with a huge problem does not crumple or run away. Someone who must make diffcult decisions on da spot.

[identity profile] thefairynator.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... Let then I, Jorgen Von Strangle, toughest fairy in the universe, add one more thing! He also must be discipline!

Why do you ask dis?

[identity profile] ttlynotcable.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Lot of things, really. But I guess the big one is like the others mentioned - willing to do what you can to make things right.

[identity profile] ttlynotcable.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
... try to. Sometimes it doesn't always work out, but... do the best you can with what you got, I guess.

[identity profile] makewayforroze.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'll be fine. Leaving home is hard for the first time but you can visit when you really need to.

A lot of things can make a hero. Anyone can be one, if they want. They don't have to save everyone, they can save just a single person and be that person's hero.

And then there are different ways to save someone. Instead of worrying about being one, if you try to do good, I think it will eventually come naturally.
