To all of my students in my Friday evening psychology class, try to remember that you have an essay due about frontotemporal dementia. I expect to have all of the essays in my office bin by 3 PM Wednesday. Any of you who try and turn it in later, even if by a minute, will have your essays rejected and earn a zero for it. Remember, this is worth 40% of your overall grade in my class.

You'd be surprised how many students I have had to fail because they didn't get it in on time. It is why I send these notifications now and why it was also mentioned in the outline for the project.

No, it is foolish to knock down a student for going the extra mile. I cannot say whether you will get extra credit for going over the asked length though.

See, this is why I don't feel bad when people ask me why I don't go out much. Because everyone goes out partying and then they whine when project time comes around and they haven't done anything. Thanks for the update, though, for some reason I thought it was due Tuesday.

[She shrugs.] I've been marked down for it before, actually. I lost a few points on a five-page paper that I couldn't cut down under seven for "being unnecessarily long-winded".

Seems we see eye to eye on this matter. That is good to hear.

Remember, I grade on quality. I am willing to read extra as even if you went over twice the asked length I could finish grading all the papers within and hour. However, the more pages you use, the more there is for me to critic and judge to better/worsen your grade with. Keep that in mind.

Right. But I'd rather be precise and go on for a while, rather than get close to the requirement, but risk losing something important. I'll be careful, Professor. If I make a mistake, I won't complain.

I think you will. It's rare that I enjoy a class enough to actually write my papers properly. Normally I just push them off like everyone else. But psychology... I can understand why everyone around me is generally useless to me. That is gold.

Yes, to be able to classify why someone around you is insane is quite interesting. It was an old game I would play with some of the people I worked with before.

Somehow I think that got too depressing to continue. You begin to realize everyone's a headcase, and the only variance is how bad it is.

I wouldn't say depressing, more like boring. It is easy for me to spot mental problems and categorize them. Especially because of my abilities.
