[Just another day at the 501st Joint Fighter Wing base in Britannia. While some people, ie Shirley and Lucchini were slacking off, others like Sanya and Hartmann were sleeping the day away, there was a small group of people who were training. It was here that Perrine could be seen maintaining her weapon, a Bren light machine gun.

She's disassembling it with swift efficiency, checking the components and feeding a brush through the barrel. After some time, she's in the process of oiling up the components before reloading it. The magazine next to her is an experimental 75 bullet cartridge, for long sorties since her specialty was gun and running.

Humming to herself, she's humming an old tune, but it's new to her as it's a newly crafted Liberion song.]

That's right. It's my own personal weapon, a Bren light machinegun. Have you ever seen someone clean a gun before?

It can be a little complex. Especially with a light machine gun like this. You want to make sure nothing gets into the barrel when you do so.

Mii, is that so? Will something pop up if anything gets into the barrel?

Ah, not quite, but it can get jammed if the barrel is dirty for instance.

It can be. And it can also backfire if it gets too jammed up. So making sure that you clean it regularly is a good idea.

I'm doing maintenance on my personal firearm, so yes it's a gun. [She picks up the stock and starts wiping it down with a cloth.]

Okay, but. Why do you have a gun?

Because I'm part of the Gallian Air Force, that's why.

You mean you're in the military?

That's right, the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, Strike Witches.

Oh, ah, okay. That sounds pretty incredible.

It's a lifestyle mostly. I'm here because I enlisted but also wanted to retake my homeland.

So, you're in a war. Um. Good luck. It must be hard and rigorous and, ah. I know there isn't much I can say because I'm not part of it, but I hope things are solved with the fewest casualties.

Watching that definitely made me glad my weapons are a lot less complicated to clean.

Really? What kind of weapons do you use? [She's pushing a wire brush into the barrel right now, which has been removed for cleaning.]

The older kinds. Stakes, crossbows, swords, axes. Stuff like that. I mean I used a rocket launcher once, but it's not like that's a common thing for me.

That would make fighting my opponents fairly difficult. Most of them have hard armored shells that require strong armor piercing rounds to disable.

Different poisons for different bad guys. Bullets don't do anything against most of the things I go up against. Can't they just make one catch-all weapon?

Really, bullets don't work? You must have some dangerous opponents. For Witches we use machine guns and other hand held weaponry, but our battleships also have strong weapons too, anti-neuroi shells and such.

Are witches different in you world than just regular humans touting big magic?

Well, we have familiars and magic, both in a paired set. We use Striker Units to amplify the use of our powers, generating shields, using specialized magical abilities unique to a person, as well as guiding explosives and bullets with magic.
