[Edgar looks thoughtful as his face shows up on screen. He's sitting at a desk, the camera angle showing it's probably an intentional video.] Power can be a funny thing. Depending on the place it can be physical, it can be knowledge, sometimes it can even be magical.

[Then he smiles. His voice is light, as if it's not a heavy topic.] I wonder, with so many worlds, what kind of power is out there. Some of you even have it, as I've been lucky enough to see. Out of curiosity, tell me about some of them.

In my galaxy political power is the most important. Inquestors command total loyalty from their subjects and have complete power over life, death, economics and world creation. In essence, we are gods, but our power rests upon the world's acknowledgement of that power, not out of any abilities of our own.

Are you saying that if no one believes in your power, then it doesn't exist? That's an interesting situation. It may seem that you hold all the power but they have some degree of it as well.

Indeed. It is only through their loyalty and that of the beasts that serve us that we retain our right to rule. So the worst thing that can happen to our kind is to be stripped of our titles.

The beasts? Since I assume you don't call your people by that name, what are you talking about?

The pygatores, thinkhives and other creatures of our world are genetically modified to obey only recognized Inquestors.

We've already discussed alchemy before, I believe.

We have. It doesn't seem like a wide spread power, however. Or one that many acknowledge.

Alchemy is more widespread in other countries. Our country is the only one that has banned it.

Then they must have some dark history with it? Did something happen to make it decidedly dangerous?

[Besides the obvious, in which he supposed alchemy could be incredibly dangerous. Or useful.]

Well, if I remember correctly the king was trying to 'modernize' the country by pushing forward with science. Alchemy is dangerous but so is science.

Alchemy's the big one here that I don't see too many other places. Before you ask, I don't got the talent for it, so that's really all I can do's tell you about it.

Alchemy seems to be the most popular answer so far, actually. [As in, two people. Counting him.] Is it a wide spread talent in your world?

[material_guy]

I got a couple alchemists on staff. Not everyone can do it and not everyone can do it good, but it's common enough there's whole branches of the military dedicated to it. Guess somethin's gotta even out for the fact that we ain't got dolphin soldiers.

You employ them? Is there any chance I could see them at work? It's something that's long been abandoned here but if there's a chance to witness it happening, I would be grateful.

Yeah, sure. It'll be useful to me if you can get some people doin' it and putting some royal research funds into it on your end.


[ooc: I'll have to get some mod permissions on that and since it would involve heavy NPCing of Tucker/Kimblee/both we'll have to handwave it if given said permission to assume it. I assume FMA Alchemy would not be similar to Edgar's world on it and thus not able to be duplicated either way but they'd both probably try to look into it.]

Magical. Everything here is determined by magical power, including your physical strength.

Is it a natural talent or is it something that one can practice to grow stronger?

[guardiss]

Both. A lot of people have a low level of inherent magical power when they're born... but the real fighters are the ones that have trained to increase it.

[refinedvillian]

But then it's an even field? That is, unless there are ways to develop it that aren't available to those without connections.

Tell me more.

[guardiss]

Everyone has to develop it in the same way. Physical training and an increased ability to focus will always boost magical power, and so will the repeated use of ÄRM - items and weapons that are activated and controlled by magic. Magical power is like a muscle that will only improve with exercise.

On its own, it can't do anything... but greater magical power will allow you to use more powerful ÄRM, and to maintain them for longer.

I think power over a heart is one of the strongest things.

I suppose it could be used for both good and evil, as most great powers usually are.

It happens, doesn't it? It can also be a strong motivator. There have been a lot of people who had done evil in the name of love.
