...Nami, that book doesn't have anything in it! [It's a young man's voice, pitched a little high and definitely energetic. He sounds genuinely concerned, as if Nami might not have noticed that she's reading an empty book.

A brief, exasperated noise comes from Nami.] There is, you just can't see it. [There's a moment of silence. Evidently she's expected to explain.] It's a special kind of book that only people who are part of a certain group can read.

But you're part of my crew! [The young man sounds very determined about that.]

I told you, I'm not joining you're crew! ...And anyway, it's not that kind of group.

[This pause is longer.] Oh, so it's a mystery book.

I take it he thinks that you are friends though? Or he's trying to have you be his friend?

He's a pirate, and he wants me to join his crew. He's a good person and I don't mind traveling with him, but I can't join a pirate crew.

You mean the "attack people and steal their stuff" pirate and not the "I say I'm a pirate but don't actually do piratey thins" pirate, right?

Well, he says he's a pirate, but I think he mostly just wants to be able to travel and have any kind of adventure he wants. He's only attacked people because they were doing bad things to other people, and he's not any good at stealing things.

... So, why is joining his crew a problem then?

No matter what kind of pirate crew it is, I still won't join a pirate crew.

I guess I don't see why it would be a problem if it's only a pirate crew in name, but... well, it's your decision. How long are you planning on traveling with him though?

Until we end up needing to go different ways, probably. We're all heading mostly in the same direction, though, so that shouldn't be for a while.

Well, I hope that he stops bugging you about joining the crew if it's something that you really don't want to do before that happens. Even if he is nice, I don't think pirates take people leaving their crews all that well.
