It's a wireless internet connection, kind of like what the community provides.

Do you have any kind of computer network in your world? Beyond the community, that is?

We have what are called "thinkhives", which are bio-organic structures that function in much the same way as the "computers" of the rest of the community. Except that the physical structure is generally within the planet's crust, rather than anything like a box or a single machine. And their powers vary widely, depending upon how advanced the world is and how many sub-systems the thinkhive runs.

I should note that I contact the comunity through the main Thinkhive of Uran S'Varek, my homeworld, and not through a more -hah- "normal" device. I doubt anything smaller than a thinkhive could calculate the variables necessary to keep me connected to the community through time-dilation and worldhopping. The time-warp alone would give most lesser hives computing burns.

Is it telepathic in some way? Or am I thinking too literally about the name?

It depends on the structure. Most simply listen for sub-voced commands. I suppose that might seem telepathic to outsiders.
